Incandescent bulbs come in various colours via painting the glass. This is hardly ideal as it limits light output since the filament itself is always warm white. Although with a wide colour gamut.

edit - yea I'm pretty sure my ES has painted glass bulbs for amber.

Not sure that was a good idea. The paint would probably block some of the light, and reduce its visibility to other drivers. You'd probably be better off with the red ones.

yes LEDs are awesome, my car has nothing but LED lights EVERYWHERE.

my front DRL/fog doubles as amber turn signal. this image shows how that works:

the back though is red only for reg lighting, brakes (brighter), and turn signals.

Saw an RX350 earlier today, clear lens incandescent amber turn signal. In other words good old fashion painted bulb.

Your G90 seems like many other vehicles today in that the corresponding DRL blanks out when the turn signals are in operation. Not all are like that, though...on some vehicles, both DRLs or headlights stay on with either turn-signal is in operation. I don't know exactly why automakers do that (cost-cutting with fewer sensors/regulators, easier/simpler wiring, DRL laws that allow the elimination of one during turn-signals, etc....), but I'm open to suggestions as to the reason. My Lacrosse, for example, keeps both headlights and DRLs in operation all of the time regardless of turn-signal function.

My CX-9 does the same thing as your Lacrosse. I found this Jalopnik article after a quick Google search.

My car uses the LED accent lighting (aka "eyebrows") as the DRL, with the LED turn signals in close proximity. I guess that means my headlights fall under exception b) in the article (signal is bright enough to be clearly seen even with DRLs on).

I think that if a company had to do this for one of their models, they might consider doing it for all of them, just for the sake of consistency, or to save money.

Now that I think about it you're right, clear lens then another lens.
