I generally like 911's, really like the 992 but every time I see one,sit in one, or drive one I just come back with the impression that they were/are waaay overpriced for what you get, like priced $30K more then they should be priced, probably more so then any car I have ever been in. I think the 911 leads in most profit per vehicle when it comes to price paid so I am pretty close, more power to them that they can get people to pay those prices for them though.

I wish at the end of each 911 generation production run before they move to a new model they would just take one basic 911, equip it the same as all the others(not stripped out), only do like 3 or 4 colors and sell it in the mid to upper 60's for the enthusiasts who can't afford it or who refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for the more specialized ones at the beginning/middle of the production run. I think they would sell a lot of those, I hardly ever see 911's on the road, I see more Cayannes which is kind of a shame.

The question is not whether someone can identify a 911 as a Porsche from a mile away, it’s whether or not someone thinks of the 911 when they think of a Porsche.

And, am I mistaken or didn’t you get a 911? So obviously it’s different for them.

As I've said many times on this forum, what is most impressive about Porsche is not their cars, but the brand strength in getting people to pay for anything that has the Porsche name on it.

BTW, Porsche's profit margins are largely from their absurdly lengthy and overpriced options list, so it's hard to imagine they would ever do anything to undercut that. That's how they get people in who really can't afford the cars - with a low base price for a base spec that no one ever actually buys, and then these people initially hugely under-equip versus what they would want so they can get under budget, but then they rationalize a little over budget because they're making the high outlay anyway, and rinse and repeat until they're way over budget. This happens so often over on the Porsche forums, and it's kind of sad, really.

I think the realistic best "bargain" possible with Porsche is to grab the GTS trim, which usually comes packaged with a lot of options at a significant discount over the same options on an S, and buy it off the lot with a lot of haggling. I didn't haggle at all with my 981 and my discount was probably over 15k versus ordering an S with the same options (and I suppose theoretically could have been more, but I wanted a model that had PASM delete, which was bundled with that gen GTS). So I'd imagine some serious haggling might get a lot more.

The Taycan is a very nice looking car, at $166K+ though not sure how many will buy this over a Tesla Model S ?

I think you called a bunch of people randomly and told them "You won a Porsche", most are going to think they won a sports car, not a SUV.

Or if a woman gets told by her friend that she wants to set her up with a guy she knows, and guess what, he has a Porsche, they ain't expecting to be picked up in a SUV.

Doesn’t change my concept that to the general public the 911 doesn’t represent Porsche today like the SUVs do which people see everywhere. That has nothing to do with how many 911s are sold or how great a car the 911 is. Obviously to people who buy a 911 the 911 represents Porsche to them.

I think if you polled people on the street about what car they think of when they think of Porsche more people would respond like my wife than you think
Wrong, 911 is Porsche. Most automotive enthusiasts wouldn't pick a Chrysler Minivan either, so not going to put a lot of stock in what she thinks of when she thinks of Porsche. Pretty sure she doesn't think of Corvette when she thinks of Chevy either. Your knowledge does seem limited when it comes to Porsche, so I would stick to Minivans and LS's.

Automotive enthusiasts who want to carry a bunch of kids and stuff would. Anyways, like I said my wife is not an automotive enthusiast by any stretch...that’s why I asked her. Most people aren’t automotive enthusiasts, that was my whole point.

And you should really try not to be so personally impacted when someone has a different opinion than you do. It’s just a car, not your child. I know plenty about Porsche’s thanks.

You should try not to take personal offense by people who are happy with Lexus and by people who know more about Porsche than you. You might try educating yourself instead of making arguing a sport. How do you have anytime to work, lease that S class that you talk about constantly, or spend with time family if you are on here all the time arguing with people? I mean, I'm middle aged and retired with no kids, so I got all the time in the world if that's what you want to do every time I post.

I take no offense at any of those things at all, you’re the one who keeps attacking me, this thread has nothing to do with Lexus.

Worry about yourself. What I do with my time is my own business.

Uhhh, you might want to check post 103 on the thread about the LC 500 convertible being $80,000 over sticker. Who commented on who's post? I can find more examples. This thread is about Porsche, How many have you owned again? I've owned two recently, a Macan S and 718 GTS. Yet, I still say Porsche is known for the 911. Driving by a Porsche dealer and asking your wife doesn't make you Porsche authority. I saw a Lamborghini on tv and asked my cat about it....I guess I am knowledgable about them now LOL.

Who brought that up here? You did.

Just drop it.

I don't have to have owned a Porsche to have interest in them and have general knowledge about them. I certainly don't know as much as someone who has had them, or as much as I know about Lexus.
