Maserati Grecale announced
New compact crossover set to debut next year
It'll borrow underpinnings from the Alfa Romeo Stelvio
Maserati is on a roll right now, and the Italian brand has just teased another new model: Grecale. Judging by the silhouette (and the information Maserati provided), it’s a smaller SUV than the Levante. Think Porsche Macan or BMW X3 size. Its stubby nose, small body and short overhangs all make it appear much smaller.
The name “Grecale” is derived from the name for the north-east wind from the Mediterranean Sea. It seems …. fine. It sounds a lot better if you say it with Italian pronunciation, as opposed to an American gre-kale. Naming the Grecale after a wind is normal for Maserati. The Mistral, Ghibli, Levante, Bora, Merak and Khamsin are all named after famous winds, too.
One final detail Maserati provided is the most telling of all, though. It’ll be built at FCA’s Cassino, Italy, plant, which is the current home of Giulia and Stelvio production. The takeaway here is that it’ll be a Stelvio-based crossover riding on the Giorgio platform. From a performance standpoint, that is fantastic. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is one of the best-driving crossovers in the world, and a Maserati version of this car sounds like a recipe for success. We’re not sure how much the two will share at this stage, but now that Maserati has a firecracker of a V6 with the Nettuno, it can use its own engine for propulsion. Maserati claims the “Grecale is destined to play a leading role for the bran.”

Dysfunctional Veteran
Maserati is one of those carmakers that has lost its luster. Nothing special about them when they can be bought for cheaper than your average MB or BMW.
A friend of mine, against my advice, bought a 2015 Quattroporte. Beautiful car. He purchased out of warranty. Nobody knows how to work on them except dealers, and his has spent more time in the shop than out. He paid $27,000 for the car. and so far has spent $15,000 chasing electrical gremlins and various CEL/VSC codes at the dealer.

It's funny how quickly things change. FCA before touted how each of its brands would stay in their own respective lanes. Alfa --> Maserati --> Ferrari. Now Ferrari is spun off. And Maserati is grasping for straws. Alfa barely makes a dent in sales, not sure bringing the Maserati nameplate down is the right move.
But I'm sure it'll sell. The current gen Maserati products are basically just Looks and Sound, and for that they deliver, at heavily discounted leases for the masses.
