I wouldn't call it safe, but, yes, probably comfortable on a cold day....especially in Corvairs that didn't have the gasoline-powered heater inside the cabin. But, even with the engine right behind the cabin, it still took a long time for it to warm up because of the air-cooling. You had more or less the same problem with the air-cooled VWs of the period, although they didn't offer a gasoline heater inside, like the Corvair did, because of safety reasons.

Didn't know anyone w/ a 'vair van/p'up as ppl I knew w/ vans had v-dub's or one of the other 3......Had a one ton Chateau two tone blue, 302 w/ c-4, roof air on the left side for the rear passengers. Installed 16.5 Ansens as well as installing side pipes, as well as upgrading the ignition w/ a heathkit,electronic ignition which you assembled. Used the points as a trigger/switch....
