Yeah they definitely feel premium. One of my agents also has one, its a Touring trim with the NA 4 cyl and it is slow, but better than say a Rogue.

Goes to show you that Mazda CAN appeal to people who are used to luxury cars. The friend of mine who had the S550 has had a lot of BMWs, MBs, Lexus vehicles. My agent who has the Touring one replaced a BMW X3 with it. Mazda salespeople I have talked to say they get a lot of move down luxury buyers who don't want to spend as much on a car anymore.

If I were all of a sudden to go get a mainstream car, I would very seriously consider a Mazda.

I think the interesting part for Mazda is that they straddle the line between mainstream (Toyota or Ford) and entry luxury which Mercedes, BMW and Lexus are all targeting.

The new Mercedes A class is a perfect example, right in there, just a tad more money than a fully loaded Mazda 3 or a Mazda 6. You also have VW with their higher end Jetta or Passat right in there at the price point. They you also have fully loaded Corolla moving up in price, Camry makes it difficult with their hybrid, awd and a V6....Honda in their two...

I am not sure if Mazda can make it without some help from Toyota as the industry is facing such a massive change

Yeah they do, which is interesting.

I figured I'd bump this thread instead of creating a new one.

A member on another board I frequent posted this link: https://tflcar.com/2021/05/next-gen-...-spotted-news/

I'm not sure if Mazda is calling this a CX-5 or a CX-50, but it looks like it borrows a lot from the MX-30's design. I highlighted some of the similarities in the screencaps below. Note the bulging rear fenders..

(last image flipped for ease of comparison)

I think it's going to look good. I like how they've made the grille smaller than previous models.

I can easily see that, Mazdas look and feel premium, and your average GLC/X3 with a four cylinder doesn't feel any better while demanding substantially higher price. If I were to consider a mainstream car, Mazda would be pretty much the only one on my list.
