Default Spent a couple days with a new Mercedes GLC300...

So while my S560 was in the shop last week, I had a 2020 GLC300 as a loaner. Only had about 1,500 miles on it, fairly well optioned with fully digital instrumentation and the AMG Sport package with 20" wheels. MSRP was just over $57,000.

All in all, I really liked it. Quality was excellent, all soft touch materials inside including the lower dash and door panels, much more upscale feeling than say an NX, or even an RX. I haven't driven the X3 but I have sat in them and they feel quite premium too. The car had the 2.0L 4 cyl and in this car it felt less out of place than it did in the E350 loaner I had. Powertrain was fairly smooth, ride was quite good given the 20" wheels, nice and quiet. Great MB ambient lighting in these also. Very nimble too. This car had the MBTex interior which to my surprise I liked a lot.

My wife drove it, and to my utter amazement not only did she say she really liked it, but she said once the kids were older and we were done with the Pacifica maybe she would like one. She never makes any such comments about any car! I was like, where do I sign?!?

This also has the new MBUX interface which I don't have. All in all very similar, I do like that the range is displayed right by the gas gauge. One tragic flaw, the car has a nice 10" widescreen, for some reason Apple CarPlay is limited to a small box inside the sceen and can't fill the whole widescreen like it does on the older MB Comand I have in my S560. Seeing that I use CarPlay exclusively, this would be a huge issue for me...doing some reading this is an issue with ALL MBUX equipped cars, including the more expensive ones with the big 12" screens. Here's a picture so you know what I'm talking about:

Thats really a huge bummer....

Overall though, very nice little vehicle. Graphite Grey with a red/black interior.

Here's a picture of the ambient lighting. I love how MB Does this, makes the cars feel really special at night:

We took a long look at the GLC and both my wife and I liked it. We were comparing the GLC, Q5 and X3 and they are all great compact CUV's. The new refreshed GLC is very nice. They made some nice tweeks to it recently.

Almost 60k for a 4 cylinder, mind boggling.

i had one of these as a loaner when i took the 55 in for the fuel tank recall, it was nice but nothing too special... the GLC i'd want comes out to over $55,000 and that's not even with every option selected, i'd much rather save $15k and get a loaded RAV4 prime which is even faster and considerably more efficient

This one was more optioned than the one you had I'm sure. No way I'd rather have a Rav4 lol

One thing I really like about Mercedes too is the depth of the product offerings. The fact that this can be had in a GLC 43 and a GLC 63 to me is awesome.

One thing I really dont like is how MB puts the only port that runs CarPlay in that big space where the cupholders are so you have to leave that open all the time. Glad mine's in the armrest.

In 2-3 years they will be at least half that price making them a great used value. The new generation of 4 cylinder cars has really impressed me, the advances in transmissions over the last decade have really made them more than adequate for the street.

After driving high powered, expensive cars for a long time I am really appreciating the depreciation curve and being able to pick up these newer, relatively nice 4 cyl models in cash for cheap then drive them for a few years and swap to the next one.

I'm loving the gas mileage also as both of my Lexus 4 cyl get about 26mpg city versus 13-15 in the V8 performance cars I used to drive.

IMHO, "more than adequate" and 'luxury" don't go together. If I were to get a GLC, I would get a GLC43.

I'd take the Prime over the GLC (ANY GLC) too - I don't need a badge - I want reliability, efficiency, technology.

Not about the badge, its the whole package. The two are just not comparable. I like well built high quality things, and the Rav 4 is a fine economy vehicle, but its not a high quality item the way this GLC is. Full of low quality plastic, ride and drive is not nearly as solid or buttoned down. Just not comparable at all.

What really impressed me about this, is it doesn't feel cheap compared to my S560 the way I always feel lower end Lexuses felt compared to my LS460s. You would buy this GLC not because its cheaper, but because it was the form factor you wanted. I can totally understand why someone would pay the same price for a high spec GLC they would pay for a mid spec GLE, where there is no way you would pay the same for a high spec NX as what any RX would cost. You see the same thing with BMW and Audi, smaller doesnt have to mean cheaper.
