Forgotten Oldsmobile....

ahh the aurora... there's an intriguing, almost captivating quality about the 1st gen, particularly with the interior having that supra like cockpit style control layout
years ago i started a thread about the aurora when i actually considering getting one after seeing how cheap they were, then i found out why they were so cheap lol... an antique northstar engine doesn't sound very promising

Actually, for its time, though unreliable, the Northstar engine was pretty advanced mechanically...the first time, I believe, that the corporation ever offered an OHC V8 instead of the usual pushrods. It had, of course, offered (thanks to John DeLorean's influence at Pontiac) offered an overhead-cam in-line-6 back in the 1960s on the Tempest/LeMans models.

No, I would never buy a car spec'ed like that. Even in the 90s that wasn't my thing.

that's true but part of the aurora's appeal (to me at least) was that it only came with a cadillac V8, and the 2nd gen just doesn't have that certain something the 1st gen did... idk maybe it just looks too much like the alero... either way i've actually seen a few 1st gens in the wild but i don't think i've ever seen a 2nd gen

That video was 10x longer than it needed to be. Even after i switched to 2x playback speed it was waaaaay too long.

It’s crazy to think that Oldsmobile once had the #1 selling cars in US for several years and now its a brand that regular ppl would not even know existed.
GM unfortunately continues to be a poorly managed company with lackluster products.

I disagree on lackluster products (at least after the 2009 reorganization and bailout)...but, as far as poor management and marketing, I totally agree....it perhaps sets the industry standard.

Were the Canadians chipper in the back of this one? LOL.
I love him too.
My Dad almost got one of these Auroras in 1995 when he traded his 1990 Continental, he got an STS instead. This Aurora didnt hasten Oldsmobile's decline, it made Oldsmobile relevant again, these cars were regarded as pretty awesome in their day. They never followed through with them which is what killed Oldsmobile.

The 1st Aurora I ever touched was a photo car for the Aurora brochure. While I was inspecting the interior I found a empty Canadian Whiskey bottle under the RF seat.

I never took the aurora seriously because it’s a front wheel drive V8.
Signed, a man who bought a 3.2TL-S with more horsepower and is also front wheel drive and probably has far worse torque steer
