The gloss black dash looks horrible in video, and I'm really surprised to hear that some of the options like the massage seats aren't available unless you upgrade to the Type S. It seems that Acura has no qualms about pushing this to match the price of an X5 when the time comes.

i like pretty much everything about this new mdx except the shiny plastic trim and the track pad controller.
overall, great job acura. and for a fwd-based platform, the side profile proportions are very good (take note toyota/lexus).

Default Loving the new 4th Gen 2022 Acura MDX

What are your thoughts? I considered the Lexi RX 350 but decided no as it is at the end of its life cycle, pretty boring and not loving the design of this gen all that much and can only tow up to 3500. Plan to tow a 2000 lb trailer occasionally, but loaded could be getting close to 3000+ lbs, while still within range but like that the MDX can tow up to 5000 and I like having that extra 1500 lbs of extra “insurance”.

I cannot justify spending $$$$ for a new Lexi when it is on its way out. The MDX looks, drives and sounds great for my wants and needs! Check out YouTube for some great reviews! All very positive except Motor Trend which gave a very biased review against the MDX, probably being paid off by MB and Audi lol!

Should have my 2022 Acura MDX Advance at the beginning of March 2021.

Acura can't be pleased when the new mdx is compared to the telluride and loses.

Today near-luxury seems to be a bad place to be in because you aren't just competing against the Luxury brands, but also Kia/Hyundai/Mazda etc who have come on with incredibly compelling products. Infiniti is on life-support, and Volvo has moved up to the Luxury tier, interesting what will come of Genesis/Acura etc in the coming years.

Prices for the Type S are out- basically the same price as a Genesis GV80 Prestige.

2022 Acura MDX Type S Costs $73,095 Fully Loaded

That is WAY overpriced.
You can get a nicely optioned X5 Msport for that amount which will be more luxurious and have much better performance.

GV80 is also a good option although may not be as sporty as they TypeS.
They are making same mistakes as they did with TLX - underpowered and overpriced vs competitors.

I don’t think the MDX S is overpriced. Dynamic Air suspension, 16 way seats. An all new engine. One of the best all wheel drive systems. Honda quality. Excellent reliability. Very good resale. I think it will do well a d I don’t even like Acura all that much. I think the Acura offering is far more refreshing than the boring same old stuff from Mercedes and Audi. BMW and GV80 are unique at least.

Their AWD system was the best when it launched over a decade ago, now everyone else has even better systems, and the Acura is still wrong wheel drive based, with awful infotainment. The X5 is much superior for the money, not even a comparison.

Its not really a X5 competitor. It’s more like a Lincoln/Lexus and Cadillac FWD alternative. Nothing wrong with FWD if that is what someone wants. Not everyone really cares about 4WD. German stuff won’t last past warranty while this will. X5 is nice. But the Mercedes and Audi crossovers are a little on the boring side. Genesis has a good rwd offerings I must say.

Dynamically FWD based crossover SUVs are at a huge disadvantage to proper RWD based ones.

Acura has had numerous issues historically with quality especially their Automatics. We shall see how this new V6 turbo engine fares. Most buyers lease these things whether its X5 or MDX so long term reliability is not important especially for those looking at Performance above anything else which is what TypeS is about.

I am sure Acura will be fine.

Given the rather slow performance of the TLX Type S, I don't have much of an expectation that the MDX will be much of a performance machine.

At least so far Acura isn't hyping it to the moon with ridiculous promises like the TLX/IntegraLX.

Side note: The ILX came out almost 10 years ago, and it wasn't until this post that I put 2 and 2 together with regards to the name.
