Of course, they didn't cost what AMGs did, either....or have hand-built engines.
Anything with AMG on it back then was V8 or V12 and they cost over twice as much as the TL and CL Type S so they were not competitors in any way. Now they have Mercs with AMG(more marketing) on them that are also 6 cylinder turbo so the new Acura Type S with turbo 6's will compete with the 6 cylinder AMG Mercs, S Audi's, and some others.

What does AMG have to this with this thread? Acura is clearly not in a segment that AMG is in.

Read the thread. We are taking about how Acura Type-S could be a Audi S, AMG43, Red Sport level competitor. NOT AMG53/63.

The picture above is a TLX (with large intercoolers in the front and quad exhaust on the rear), thus everyone suspects it is the return of the Type-S with probably 350hp and SH-AWD. AMG C43 puts out 362hp, S4 puts out 354hp. Very excited for Acura.

Since someone brought this back to life, I came across these spy shots of the supposed next gen TLX Type-S.

Which grills were/are uglier, Acura or Lexus? Looks like Acura is coming to their senses, hopefully Lexus will too!

I tend to agree with you on both the Acura and Lexus grilles, but that view is not very widespread on Car Chat. The spindle-grilles have become a sacred cow to a lot of folks.

Hyundai has shifted over to the next phase of ugly grilles. They feel adopting Acura's pentagon from ten years ago is appropriate.

TLX debuts on May 28th, including the Type S with a 3.0 Turbo V6.

https://acuranews.com/en-US/releases...ebut-on-may-28

  • Teaser image hints at new TLX's expressive rear profile, wide stance, low roofline and quad exhaust outlets
  • TLX Type S marks the high-performance variant's return after a decade hiatus; first to feature Acura's new dedicated 3.0-liter V6 Turbo engine
  • Digital reveal of the 2021 TLX set for Thursday, May 28 at 10:00 a.m. PDT
Acura will reveal the completely new second-generation Acura TLX sport sedan digitally on May 28. Delivering dramatic gains in style and performance, the new TLX will be the quickest, best-handling and most well-appointed sport sedan in Acura history, with the Type S being the model's performance pinnacle. The new TLX will make its public debut in a short film viewable at acura.com/2021-TLX on Thursday, May 28 at 10:00 a.m. PDT.

The exterior of the new TLX carries forward the dramatic proportions and design language first introduced on the Acura Precision Concept, in 2016, and later evolved in the Acura Type S Concept, which debuted at Monterey Car Week in August 2019. A teaser image released today, showcases the new TLX's wide rear silhouette and imposing stance with muscular curves, large diameter quad exhaust outlets and rear diffuser strakes.

The 2021 TLX is the latest step in Acura's steadfast commitment to bring Precision Crafted Performance to life, as manifested in the second-generation NSX supercar, the third generation RDX, the addition of PMC Edition models produced at the NSX factory, the return of Type S performance variants and a new dedicated 3.0-liter V6 Turbo engine set to debut with the TLX Type S.

Fun easter egg from Acura. This easter egg may not have been real, but still fun.

Should we expect 400+ HP from the TL-S?
