Default Anyone own a 1997 MB e320?

If you do, what are the common problems? What type of bulbs are used in the headlights?

Thanks

y??? u thinkin about gettn a 97 MB E? dont know much about the E... but i kno that the benzos, although very beautiful cars, are not as reliable as the Lex. They cost an arm and a leg to maintain in the long run. With my W202 (c class), every time I go to have the car fixed, I remember dropping at least $1G each time.. small or large prob. The C is the most affordable to maintain among all their lines. All the parts for the others are pretty exp.

check out : mbworld.org
or mercedesshop.com

these are really good forums to find out about the E. I'm thinkin about buyin one myself as soon as i get a job. one of my neighbors has a silver with black interior.... pretty car!!!

My dad's boss just sold the car to him. It is really clean and my dad loves it. The car is a silverish champagne pearl color (I have no clue what it's called). Here are a few pics.

pretty. i drove a kompressor (sp?) yesterday. shifts were too methodical. felt like the car tried to think about it too much. car spun easily when turning a corner accelerating out of a parking lot. (felt too stiff at the rear.) then the traction control kicked in, the power went away, when it got the power back it shifted too harshly. it just seemed like the car was trying to think about everything it did. you could tell the computer was running the entire car.

very annoying. wouldn't have one after that test drive.

Hey L.Aristo,

My sister owns a 97 E320. The car give nothing but problem... They don't drive the car much and around 18k miles, the dealer had to replace a new transmission. Other typical problems like brakelight and signal. In addition, the power window motor in the passenger side was also replace because it went completed dead.

Here is a good story for you. My girlfriend and I was fed up with MB, especially with House of Import. On Labor day weekend, we were driving home from Vegas on my girlfriend's 01' C320. The car completed lost power and we almost got rear ended because of that. One of our friend also experience the same episode on his 02' C320! We took the car in for inspection after I wrote a complaint to MB headquarter, and as I expected, they could not located the problem, even the service manager admitted to us there were lots of complaint about this situations. He promised me for the remedy of the problem but still could not find anything.

Anyways, we are trading her car for a GX soon and best luck to your Dad's car!!! MB stinks!!! that is why they are losing in their market share!

Thank you for the input. Me and my mom both drive Lexus. My dad said the car is one of the most reliable, 97-98 MB e320. It has passed the break in period and there has never been any problems with it (knock on wood).

Car looks nice B!

with my ever changing mind, I once considered a 00-01 E320 as a replacement to old girl. I went to M/BWorld and posted a thread about common issues, check it out. You gotta give your dad your wheels!! LOL

Yea, I roam around mbworld.org sometimes (just to dream) and actually a few S, CL, and SL55 owners have had the same prob of the engine just completely dying when they were driving... a couple just like you when they were on the highway. My advice to you is check the service history thoroughly of the car you're thinking of purchasing and have an inspection done. All that aside, Mercedes does make beautiful cars, good luck!
