Old vs new -- 20 years

The 330 may be interference, but it doesn't have the oil-circulation problem that the 3.0L V6 did, which made the engine run hot and put stress on the oil itself. The oil had to be religiously kept changed by the book (or even more often), with little if any room for error or delay. A lot of those engines gelled or sledged up and were ruined because owners got lax on those oil changes.

I heard the 300's are non-interference, while the 330's are. Not a big deal to me. I mean yeah it would suck if it broke and ruined the engine, but that is pretty rare if you think about it. I'll take my chances.
Agree about the 460. All that new tech they put in those cars isn't something I want to worry about spending $1400 here and there.
What kind of money did you put into your 2003 besides timing belt/water pump maintenance?

No, those engines are definitely non interference:

by the way the 90-94 1UZ-FE was non interference from what I have heard

The vast majority of ESs of that generation dont have adaptive suspension. It was an option, but extremely extremely rare. Those engines do have timing belts, but they are non-interference. 460s arent cheap to maintain as they age. Like you said, no car that age is.
I still have my 2003 ES300, and we've put plenty of money into it. Not going to do the timing belt again unless it breaks, did it at 90k miles it has 215k on it now.

I'd like to keep it under a certain amount. 04-06 430's go for a considerable amount more than the 330's, so I could only imagine what a 460 goes for.
Also heard the 07 and 08's are ones to avoid, which makes sense since they are the beginning of a redesign. So an 09+ would be pretty spendy. The screens in those cars look like crap and since I like the idea of keeping my cars for many, many years, I can't imagine what it'd look like in 15 years. Just better off with buttons, which is another reason the 330's appeal to me.
Oh and a shop a couple hours from me does timing belts with water pump for $800 out the door. So what if every 3-4 years I need that done. Not a deal breaker lol.

It’s ok. My information on the 1MZ being interference was based off of old shop manuals that referenced misinformation by Mitchell. This goes back more than two decades. It’s good to have some answers even long after the cars in question are gone and sold, lol

Wow quite a bit of work. Are those things common on 330's? I suppose some is maintenance but the gaskets don't seem like it. I don't know much about car parts. That's why I'm here and not at BMW or something lol

you said 500,000 is what you want...you will have to replace a lot of stuff by then.

I have no issues with my two vehicles that have timing belts. It’s just a PITA for some
Some argue that the new models from the 05-09 generation of Toyota and Lexus IS the worst ever for the brands when it comes to quality and longevity....(note: I have an 09 Matrix). And it’s different from the era of Toyota’s before.

Really? I know the 07-09 Camry had some major issues and the first two years of the ES and LS (07 and 08) had some big issues to work through compared to their predecessors. I think 05 and 06 were the final years of that classic Lexus build quality and reliability. Just from reading many, many posts.
