I'm still pretty hesitant on that 9 speed... seems like swapping CVT which journalists complain about, but most daily driver people don't care about, for a 9 AT that is almost universally panned is not a wholesale upgrade.

Infinity SUVs have been one of the ugliest things to roll down the road, for a while. Looks like this may change things up... FINALLY.

I don't know how it compares but the 8 speed in my genesis 3.3ttv6 is EXCELLENT.

The 10 speed in the LC is amazing too but sometimes at lower speeds in comfort mode it doesn't seem sure what gear it should be in but could be my driving too. But talk about instant shifts in sport/sport+ mode!

So i guess sadly this next qx60 will be fwd-based (vs current rwd-based).

Edit: my bad, current fwd too.

I totally assumed it would be RWD biased.. the thing has to weigh 4750lbs!

Does it seem like 10 speeds is too much? I hear there is a lot of overdrive gears for economy. I hear the 10 speed is a lot better than the RCF 8 speed though. Maybe it'll trickle down to other models.

The current Qx60 is fwd biased, the FX/Qx70 was RWD biased.

I thought the current QX60 / Pathfinder are FWD based?

off topic, but since you asked.

Not to me, no. First of all, if you're in sport/sport+ it 'limits' to 8 gears and keeps revs higher. In normal/comfort/eco you get 10 and of course eco is trying to get to higher gears sooner.

It's a pretty amazing transmission given its different personalities.

and, not that i do it much, hands down the best manual shifting i've ever experienced.

Good stuff.

Also, when Infiniti went to FWD SUVs, I lost interest in the brand entirely. I had a G35 for 11 years which I loved and when had a chance to have a Q50S for a week when it broke down and needed repairs. I realized the Q50 had fallen way behind its competitors and knew Infiniti was in trouble at that point. I thought the FX was a far better car than what they have now and its a shame the direction Infiniti headed.

I'm very curious s to why they didnt use the 3.8L from the new Frontier and tune it for more horsepower and have more torque than most of the competition, namely the RX.

I think it has something to do with the reliability of the CVT. I have a friend who works closely with Nissan dealerships, and he thinks they moved away from CVTs because some dealerships need to keep whole CVT transmissions (4+ in some cases) in stock/on hand due to needing to replace them often. Purely anecdotal, so take that with a grain of salt.

Well known actually. Nissan CVTs are trash and they’ve damaged Nissans reputation.
