I'm still pretty hesitant on that 9 speed... seems like swapping CVT which journalists complain about, but most daily driver people don't care about, for a 9 AT that is almost universally panned is not a wholesale upgrade.

I don't know how it compares but the 8 speed in my genesis 3.3ttv6 is EXCELLENT.
The 10 speed in the LC is amazing too but sometimes at lower speeds in comfort mode it doesn't seem sure what gear it should be in but could be my driving too. But talk about instant shifts in sport/sport+ mode!![Dance 2](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/dance2.gif)

So i guess sadly this next qx60 will be fwd-based (vs current rwd-based). ![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Edit: my bad, current fwd too.

Not to me, no. First of all, if you're in sport/sport+ it 'limits' to 8 gears and keeps revs higher. In normal/comfort/eco you get 10 and of course eco is trying to get to higher gears sooner.
It's a pretty amazing transmission given its different personalities.
and, not that i do it much, hands down the best manual shifting i've ever experienced.

off topic, but since you asked.

Also, when Infiniti went to FWD SUVs, I lost interest in the brand entirely. I had a G35 for 11 years which I loved and when had a chance to have a Q50S for a week when it broke down and needed repairs. I realized the Q50 had fallen way behind its competitors and knew Infiniti was in trouble at that point. I thought the FX was a far better car than what they have now and its a shame the direction Infiniti headed.

I think it has something to do with the reliability of the CVT. I have a friend who works closely with Nissan dealerships, and he thinks they moved away from CVTs because some dealerships need to keep whole CVT transmissions (4+ in some cases) in stock/on hand due to needing to replace them often. Purely anecdotal, so take that with a grain of salt.
