It's possible to have a normal well illuminated life with LED's. After you've had them they're not scary.

Hmmm maybe I'll stick to leasing...I cant imagine paying $7k for headlights. I could buy a used Hyundai G90 for that amount.

without having a picture of the E class headlights, it is hard to fully understand the situation. I have a 17 E class myself with the multibeam and have not experienced any cracking, even with mostly highway miles (now at 51K miles). I am surprised that the lease return inspection would result in her having to repair those items, usually they are pretty forgiving of damage, especially if you lease or buy another vehicle with them. In addition, this is a Canadian spec vehicle, so converting it back to US dollars is "only" around 5.5K for the pair.

Too much money for not that much better performance. The top headlight performance cars are mostly mainstream cars and the headlights don't cost that much. I don't know about my IS350 but my Model 3 headlight replacement is about $800 and they are super bright LEDs. I bet the Subi and Mazda LEDs are about the same. I can't fathom a $7k headlight

actually the multi beam Mercedes headlight on the E class has the highest rating available from IIHS, and the car earned IIHS top safety pick + when it came out in 2017

I'm sure they are great but are they 7x the cost great? Diminishing returns but I guess that is the definition of luxury.

German car generally means parts cost 5x more than they should and are over engineered just to add more salt in the wound.

well the real reason for the high cost is the 64 individual LEDs in each housing that are supposed to be able to dim for oncoming traffic when the high beams are on. However, not available in US or even Canada I think, but we still have to pay for the tech.

its not 7K a headlight. Its 7K Canadian which is 5.5K US dollars, for a pair. it is $2.25K a light

and it is available through my local MB dealer for $1,817 each side

This is part of the reason my 2011 328i was deemed a total loss by insurance.. when each adaptive xenon headlight costs over 1k each to replace, and the rest adds up.

another reason why leasing sucks. Headlight is perfectly driveable but the dealer wants to nickel and dime for anythign when you turn in the lease and what can you do about it?
