I think they will sell every one of these they make and this would be a great car to park in the garage and drive minimally (or, do whatever) for the next 20 years because it has all the 2020 tech but an old fashioned NA V8. So glorious. These will hold value like it's insane.

Half decent engines that rev to 4-5k mated to crap build quality.
I am looking forward to the new Z06 which is supposed to have 5.5L V8 with crossplane crank.
None of their current engines are superior to Lexus 5.0 V8.

The issue is this model being an F Sport Performance with the same engine and nearly every attribute of the F Model cars devalues the whole concept of an F Model car.
If they would take the tact that you are describing and commit to developing more F Models that are on another level from this I would agree, but I just don't see them doing that.

I think repositioning this as F lite to compete with S4, M340i and C43 actually gives IS500 an edge. If it was F model - they would compare it to C63, M3 and it can’t compete with those cars. GSF should have been GS500 with much lower price and i think Lexus learned their lesson.
It’s funny that this car is being better received on BMW forum than on CL.

Your point is valid but they ruined F brand long ago by putting F engine into LC500. Personally I don’t think F brand registers on anybody’s radar. It’s definitely not some storied brand with rich history.

As for the reception on the Bimmer forums - there probably aren't as many jaded Lexus owners/ex-owners that have been let down in the past, so this it just a shiny new toy to them...!

BMW makes the most perfect cars in the world except for their absolutely horrendous reliability, short term new and long term used.

They should of put in the ls500's 3.5TT.... that would of made it much more fun. As it stands now with the v8, would be about equal performance with m340i.

Personally, I think that's going to cause some disappointment and maybe never let an ISF get off the ground (assuming one may come).

A bullet proof Japanese V8 will be a collector's item.

Right, that's why I said "save for price" - I hope the price point stays well below M3 levels!

472hp looks good on paper so it should do well against a measly 382hp M340. What's weird is that 4.5s to 60mph is pretty pedestrian for 472hp. All of the German cars get there with less than 400hp and you also have the Kia Stinger and G70 at that speed with 365hp. I understand if it's traction limited but the quarter mile is similar to the cars mentioned above. They all weigh the same too. A Mustang GT has similar hp and weight and does the 0-60 in 4 flat and low 12s in the quarter mile. Maybe the engines too peaky and powerband isn't broad enough. Strange.

I honestly don't know enough about all the performance numbers you state, but does the Lexus V8 trap significantly higher than those other cars in the 1/4 mile? Maybe the gearing isn't great?
