according to this article the container ship 'backlog' is simple due to the surge in demand for imports as restrictions lifted as covid has gone on.

That is definitely part of the equation, pent up demand and a backlog. But there is also a worker shortage that's part of the problem as well

The stock market has been strong, and almost everyone received extra $$ from various Covid funds—less vacation and dine out also turn into additional cash to spend.

Many jobs are working remotely now, so everyone is spending more to upgrade their home workspace or buy more entertainment gear.

I know I did some upgrading That was not to work remotely though, it was purely for gaming. I still can't get a good video card thanks to super limited stock on those.

If bestbuy does those inperson drops it may be your best bet to get one at the time. Otherwise Ive given up finding one online that isnt double the price

I don't think Toyota has utilized cylinder deactivation at all. I believe only Honda does with their v6's, and I think even Mazda does on a limited number of models. We all know GM does, but iirc, GM was removing it from new engines temporarily due to component shortages.

The Newegg lottos may be fine too, but I never got anything from them. I was fortunate enough to luck into a 3080 when they first came out from Newegg before they moved to the lotto system. I would absolutely hate to be in the market for one right now with no supply along with the massive price increases. MSRP could only be had with the FE cards, and Best Buy drops are few and far between.

LFA has cylinder deactivation actually!

I got a 5950X off the newegg lotto, no video cards though. Finally got one off the EVGA queue a few months ago.

Hopefully all these new fabs coming up (like TSMC in Japan, Phoenix, etc.) will relieve the supply imbalance (incl. auto) but most are still a few years off.

I have been building my own computers for 20 years now, no way I'm buying a Dell

Acura uses cylinder deactivation too. Our MDX would cut down to 3 cylinders and get great highway mileage.

I got a 3060 Ti from the Newegg shuffle, but I'm still waiting on real upgrade like a 3080 or higher. I've been in queue at EVGA for months with no luck. I camped Newegg for 3 days this summer and got a 5950X at MSRP when one came in stock. Great processor, but at full tilt it's power hungry beast! I have mine limited to 65 watts so it doesn't heat up my office too much in the summer. Now that it is cooling down I will let er eat the full 220 watts when it needs it. /nerdtalk

And just to throw in a Lexus related bit of info... I think Lexus uses the Atkinson Cycle instead of cylinder deactivation which is supposed to help fuel economy. I watched a video about it a long time ago, but I no longer remember the specifics.

Confirming the front overhang grows for the IS500, correct?

Yup, just a little bit by 2 inches
Edit: meaning people that want to put the IS500 hood on the IS350 will need to get the longer fenders and bumper as well.
