Hyundai Motor America Reports February 2021 Sales

  • Retail Sales Up 9% on a Daily Selling Rate Basis
    • Hyundai SUV Retail Sales Increased 8%

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March 2, 2021 – Hyundai Motor America reported total February sales of 48,333 units, a 9% decrease compared with the company’s all-time best February in 2020. Retail sales were down 2%. Hyundai fleet sales were down 47%, representing 9% of total volume.

February 2021 contained two fewer selling days and one fewer selling weekend than last year. On a daily selling rate basis, Hyundai total sales increased 1% and retail sales were up 9%.

“Hyundai’s manufacturing facilities have maintained production levels, allowing our customers to find the Hyundai vehicle they desire,” said Randy Parker, senior vice president, National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Significant weather in parts of the country disrupted logistics and sales. We anticipate sales bouncing back in those areas over the next several months. Despite that, consumer demand remains strong and Hyundai dealers continue to achieve increasing return on sales.”

Hyundai sold 44,133 retail units in January. Retail SUV sales were up 8% and represented 69% of the total retail mix. Retail sales rose for Venue (+13%), Kona (+4%), Tucson (+9%), Santa Fe (+26%) and the entire eco-friendly lineup (+17%).

STRONG FEBRUARY SALES FOR KIA MOTORS AMERICA

03/01/21 ID: 17094Seltos SUV Posts Best-Ever February Sales

IRVINE, Calif., March 1, 2021 – Kia Motors America today announced February sales of 48,062 units, including the 1st retail deliveries of the all-new 2022 Carnival MPV. Sales of light trucks have accounted for more than 60-percent of total volume for 28 consecutive months. The award-winning Telluride continues to defy industry convention with a 12-day average turn rate 2 years after arrival in showrooms.

“February saw positive advancements for the Kia brand on multiple fronts. The pace of new Sorento SUV sales continued to increase and J.D. Power named Kia the number 1 mass market brand in the 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia Motors North America. “The launch activities supporting both Sorento and the all-new 2022 Kia Carnival MPV have been instrumental to Kia’s strong 1st quarter performance and contributed to a 2.4-percent increase in the year-to-date adjusted daily selling rate of over the same period last year. We are confident that momentum will continue with 4 all-new or significantly redesigned vehicle introductions scheduled for the remainder of the year.”

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. REPORTS FEBRUARY SALES

  • Best February ever for Crosstrek
Subaru of America, Inc. today reported 48,300 vehicle sales for February 2021, a 6.6 percent decrease compared to the February sales record set in 2020 (51,695). The automaker also reported year-to-date sales of 94,700, a 3.4 percent decline compared to the same period in 2020.

“In February, Mother Nature brought us a multitude of challenges; however, we are proud of the ways our dedicated network of retailers, distributors and employees persevered,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc. “As we head into Spring, we expect even stronger demand for our award-winning lineup of exceptional products.”

February marked the tenth consecutive month of 40,000+ vehicle sales for the automaker. Crosstrek achieved its best February ever with 10,691 vehicle sales, an increase of 29 percent compared to February 2020. BRZ sales for February 2021 increased 7.8 percent compared to the same month in 2020. In addition, 13,482 Forester SUVs were delivered in February, making it the top carline by volume.

With a total of nine IIHS awards, Subaru is tied for the most awards earned by an individual brand.

“Subaru retailers continue to rise to the challenge and deliver strong results in a difficult marketplace,” said Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales. “Our vehicles earned significant recognition this month, with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) naming nine Subaru vehicles as TOP SAFETY PICK awards and giving Subaru the distinction of having more IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards than any other brand since 2013.”

meanwhile, the cousin telluride's sales are up more ytd (1600) than the palisade is down. the telluride seems to have one the popularity contest among the two. oh and month selling days were less this year than last which affects monthly sales. of course you always find the negative to point out when it comes to hyundai/kia/genesis.

I am amazed car sales are strong given prices and interest rates, people carrying near $1000 a month payments. Still, I believe pre-COVID, the US was very near 19M units a year - and I don't think it will ever get back to that. Less people are leasing now, so more buyers mean the average age of new cars bought in this cycle is going to get much longer, not as much turnover. I know for myself, I went from being a 3 year lease flipper, now I bought an RX350 and will run that at least 6-7 years. And many people I know have made the same transition away from the 3 year lease flip.

I think the bottom is going to fall out once sub $30K EVs from Tesla and China hit the US market. That's going to seriously disrupt today's market, which seems focused only on $60K+ cars and putting people into 72 month loans with near $1000 a month payments. That can't last.

I think they will just further increase per unit costs honestly, less people are able to afford cars than ever before so might as well make as much money as possible off those who can.

Market has been trending away from cheaper cars for a decade now

not sure why the new posts in the Feb sales thread, but i think more people are leasing than ever, simple because lower payments (regardless of future).
