I agree with everything you said, especially about comfort. Even the interior door handles have a very soft leather. When I had the RX as a loaner, I found myself touching random areas inside the car at red lights because I couldn't believe how soft some of the surfaces felt.
Those areas in the RX are actually Nu Luxe not leather, but they are very soft.

I have to join some of the biggest fans of NuLuxe.....that is an excellent material, probably the best imitation-leather I have ever seen.

its still not quite the same though. Thats one of the things I really like about my S560 vs my LS460, the real leather on the door armrests and the console vs imitation.

We didn't need the extra size of the RX since it's 98% the 4 us, so the NX is perfect for our daily usage.
It's so easy to drive and park.
The NX F-sport (with navigation, rcta, bsm, moonroof) pricewise was about the same as a base RX when we looked back in '16.

That extra space in the RX (if needed) was the additional room in the backseat if we ever needed to fit 3 larger person back there.

Does edgier crowds like to pay $40-50k for a car thats loud, underpowered and overall not very refined?

Agreed.....my thoughts exactly. At that price, the NX should NOT be be loud or unrefined. We're not talking about a base-level RAV-4.
