This is a common misconception. People who are disappointed or think that the effect is too weak often completely misunderstand the point of ventilated/cooled seats, which is not to necessarily cool you down (although that is an excellent side effect of the whole ordeal). You should instead look at it as an instrument by which to keep you fresh. If you've ever gotten done with a 20+ minute drive on a humid day and found your shirt disgustingly stuck to your back, just remember that this would not have happened (or would have at least been reduced) if you were using ventilated seats. If you can conclude a longer drive feeling fresh, then the feature did its job, often without you thinking about it or actively "feeling" the effect. Whether it's just standard ventilated seats sending ambient air through the perforation, or the models that provide cooled air, (either from the HVAC system or a peltier device in the seat) the result is similar. It allows you to drive more comfortably, and therefore more efficiently & safely over time, ultimately saving money, sanity, and even lives.

Car and Driver said the LS460 had Peltier elements in the seats.
But if the back seat is where you spend most of your time, then Lexus has its priorities correct. A comfortable ride, a quiet and scrupulously climate-controlled atmosphere, multi-adjustable seating with Peltier cooling pads, and video entertainment with one of the best car stereos ever devised are at your disposal. So chill. You made the right decision after all.

It shows being in the rear seats of a 2007 LS460L. That seems like a rare vehicle, no?

it could be that theyre in the rear seats and not the front seats. Neither of my LSs had cooled rear seats. If you think about it that would make sense since there's no air underneath the rear seats to circulate...

I have the ventilated seats in my 16 IS F Sport and I notice the difference. It is just the air from within the car, not directly from the HVAC system but it is definitely less sweaty than non-ventilated seats.

As discussed in another recent thread, the LS430, LS460, LS460L and LX570 all have Peltier style thermoelectric coolers inline the seat ventilation path. Not sure about LS500.
Other models have ventilated seats without the cooling element. All of them benefit from switching your AC on to get cool air under the seats to blow upward.
