I'm too young to have witnessed these in their natural habitat, but an orange Gremlin with black stripes was prominently featured in the 2013 film, "Horns:"



That was probably my first (and only) exposure to it in pop culture.

 

I don't know if you saw the video I attached to the OP, but AMC seemed to be marketing the Levi/Denim-version to the pop-culture with young people as it existed back then.

 

6 cylinder as well as a v/8 + the range you could go as the fuel tank is almost twice the size of the comp.......
