I owned a 1st gen BRZ. Was funny that a then fairly high contented BRZ Limited was cheaper at a retail dealer than I could get the FRS, which had little to no creature convenience content at the time, even as a Toyota employee.

BRZ and FRS are hard to comprehend by the magazine stat armchair racers. But they completely fit the adage of much more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

You could feel like you're wringing this thing out at like 9/10ths on amazing canyon roads, and you're still going at or below the speed limit. You won't get in over your head quickly like some 500 HP+ beast.

Autocross like @jdr76 mentions is a perfect environment for it.

Driving enjoyment is the name of this game. Can't wait to sample a new one with some of the added oomph down low. I liken it to potentially the AP1 vs AP2 S2000s.

At this point, how much trouble would it be for Toyota to put a Toyota engine in the 86? I'll never buy another Subie product due to their decades-old engine issues--coolant leaks, oil leaks, and blown head gaskets!

Otherwise, the next gen styling looks great!

The entire chassis is build around the flat 4 would be a completely different car with a Toyota engine.

Okay. It's great this car is still around.
It's a real alien on the street, and one of the last true drivers car for affordable money.
The fact they switched to the 2.4 and corrected the torque gap is splendid.
The interior in the pictures I saw, looks really well put together.
Its a very interesting evolution.

I know what I will say now makes no sense for some here, but I would have liked, if they did a flat 6 instead of a flat 4. Perfectly knowing my statement is stupid in regard of what it implies. But dang, this would be the ultimate evolution for this car.

I still remember those 2.4 inline sixes from Japan, that where all over the place in the 90's. Those where great engines, and a small boxer 6 would give real Porsche vibes.
