That is a good observation about this photo and the hood line @JDR76

Hopefully it’s something exciting and not another boring crossover.

I think Subaru negotiated that they can introduce the car first and get some additional exposure since they did the heavy lifting in developing the car.

Now it will be Toyota’s turn and they will have BRZ there since it’s already been revealed anyway.

i hope Toyota version can fix the front bumper and maybe have different taillights. Either way its great to have the twins and new Nissan Z on the way. Hopefully ppl will go out and buy them.

Not bad looking, especially up front.....but with some ties to recent Ford styling.

Not a fan of that Chris-Bangle trunk-lid, though. Didn't like it on BMWs, and still don't on anything else.

I wouldn't be surprised if Subaru is just giving up on it and trying something else.

Relatively few buyers?? It's been a pretty solid seller for Subaru. Sold over 80,000 units in 2019. Pretty solid volume for a first generation product (no, not going to count Tribeca here). Handily outsells Mazda CX-9. Outsold Pathfinder (albeit fairly dated model) the past few years.

Hasn't gotten easy for Ascent. Telluride and Palisade grabbing a ton of attention and accolades. A new Highlander has since debuted. New Pathfinder and I presume soon a new Honda Pilot. Subaru will have to do something good for the midcycle update. But I don't see Subaru walking away from Ascent. There are many I've spoken to at Toyota that would love to see Highlander get an Ascent sized update. Could have made that together.

Subaru continues to ride a pretty decent wave of continued consumer interest and growing base. They've done so without the hefty and somewhat excessive incentives that many brands have had to leverage to grow or maintain market share.

They do seem to be slowing down a bit, so further significant growth will likely take a shift in branding, image targets, design and material improvements. But with overall industry really reaching a peak and expected to contract a bit in the future, I don't see them pushing for that much more than where they've come. They seem to like their steady growth and profits. Joint projects to spread costs like this BRZ/86 allow them to keep some interest and enthusiast spark.

First impression is the outgoing model looks better.

I'll agree they need something in the Ascent's class, but the problem is that the Ascent has not gotten a good reputation for reliability....not just for the bad experience my colleagues had with theirs, but according to Consumer Reports.

Anyhow, back to the OP, no need to go on any further about the Ascent...the new intro is obviously the new BRZ replacement.

I guess my prediction was correct 😀

Glad Toyota fixed the goofy BRZ front bumper.
Hopefully these cars will sell well, i may consider one in the future when the special editions are released.

I'm seriously entertaining getting this for my son, to upgrade him from.his mr2 spyder. However, the speculative starting price point of $30k seems.high, especially if the rumored 400z $35k is true. At any rate, it's good to see more coupes.

To each his own. I think the 2nd gen is looking much better than the outgoing model.
