New Second-Generation 2022 Buick Encore debuting later this year.
If my memory is correct, I think there was an earlier thread on this subject (Hoovey may have started it?), but I did several thorough searches, both Basic and Advanced, and simply couldn't find it. So, I'll include this post now as a new thread.....Moderators, if you find an old thread, you can attach it.
Anyhow, this concerns the Buick Encore (NOT the Encore GX that I own, but the basic, entry-level Encore....a completely separate vehicle). The first-generation version was a huge sales success for Buick (Buick's top-seller in the American market), selling over 100,000 units a year before the new GX arrived last year to compete with it and draw away a lot of sales....just as the sister Chevy Trailblazer took a lot to sales from the former Trax. Along with the all-new Encore GX, Buick introduced an all-new 2Gen Encore last year in China, but hesitated to bring it to the American market, keeping the old-generation version here as the entry-level American-market crossover. That apparently will change for the 2022 model year......Buick and GM management decided to bring it stateside, so the almost-decade-old 1Gen Encore will be saying good-bye.
I got a notice from Buick this evening that production of the American-spec 2Gen Encore will start this month (April), but will take some time reaching American dealerships because of its assembly in Chinese plants. The notice did not say if we will also see Korean production of tis vehicle, as both the Encore GX and Trailblazer (neither does Wiki have any information on that)....so I'll assume, for now, that it will be Chinese-production done to American-specs, like with the larger Envision. It's also odd that Buick has not updated its web-site to even describe the new 2022 Encore version or check it out with the Build-Your-Own feature.....so I hope that the person from Buick who sent me that notice did not have wrong info, or is simply jumping the gun.
I'm looking forward to seeing and driving the new Encore, to see how it compares to the GX and if I can recommend it or not. Unfortunately, there are some things with the new (slightly larger) Envision that I'm not impressed with, and I clearly prefer the Encore GX to it, even though the Envision has a smoother/quieter engine with one extra cylinder.

General Motors has been offering the Buick Encore, which is based on the original Opel Mokka, in the States since 2013, but a replacement is supposedly underway for the U.S. market.
A second-generation was launched, alongside the Encore GX, at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. However, it was restricted to the Chinese market, whereas in the U.S. the first-generation, which was facelifted in 2017, carried on.
Now it seems that GM might have decided to bring the second generation over from China to the United States and Canada. It will allegedly launch later this year as a 2022 model and is expected to be offered alongside the current Encore GX.
According to GMAuthority, the 2022 Encore will pack a new 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that will replace the i4 LUV powering its predecessor. The output and torque will apparently stand at 153 HP and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm), an improvement over today’s model that has 138 HP and 148 lb-ft (201 Nm), and it should be more fuel efficient.
Watch Also: Is The 2020 Buick Encore GX Worth The Premium Over The Encore?
Both front- and all-wheel drive versions of the subcompact crossover are expected to launch, albeit probably in a single trim level, as Buick will reportedly drop the base spec. If it keeps the same nomenclature, then the Preferred will become the sole grade available.
The all-new Encore should still be positioned under the Encore GX, but in order for this to happen, GM would need to adjust the prices, because the 2021 Encore Preferred FWD starts at $25,595 with no options, while the GX can be ordered from $24,200. As for the base 2021 Encore, it has an MSRP of $23,200.
Thus, we’re curious if Buick will make the upcoming 2022 Encore more affordable than its predecessor, or if they will bump the cost of the bigger and more premium offering instead. Still, you’d better take this with the proverbial pinch of salt, as nothing has been confirmed yet.

Is China’s Buick Encore Coming To The U.S. To Replace The Aging Small Crossover?
