Default BMW quietly drops prices on 8 Series across the board

For the 2022 MY. Coupe, Gran Coupe, and M8:

https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/8-se...-your-own.html
https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/m-mo...-your-own.html
https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/8-se...-your-own.html
https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/m-mo...-your-own.html

They've made the M-Sport package as standard equipment in the base 840i. M850i costs $13K less. M8 is now offered only in competition trim but costs $18K less. Standard equipment remains the same- this is almost fully loaded out the gate even as a base model.

I wouldn't be surprised if dealers take off even more on the sticker prices. These are not selling.

Forget the BMW's reliability. Forget that is is the most expensive to maintain. Don't know about the 8 series but can't imagine much different the 7 series is the fastest depreciating car. After five years it has loss 72.6% of it's original value. That $100,000 auto after five years is worth $28,000. On the other hand according to J D Power, Lexus is #1 in the lowest depreciation.

These two factors do not matter to a lot of people buying these cars. A lot of wealthy buyers just keep them for the warranty period and then move on. The BMW competition is really fast for acceleration.

Irrelevant comparison. Lexus has no equivalent to a twin turbo V8 grand tourer.

8 Series definitely has some of the highest incentive spend in the segment, but aging SL is similar, NSX is even higher.

2022 will also bring the Alpina B8 at the top of the range.

Any carmaker that calls a sedan a coupe deserves to have to deeply discount their stuff.

The 8 series is an awful car to drive - uncomfortable, cramped, zero visibility, and doesn't even drive very sporty.

Thanks, I was wondering how it actually drives.

still looks like a mustang. Sucks for those who bought it, this price drop and increase in standard equipment is going to hurt the used values bigtime

It's like 4500 pounds to start, I don't think anyone expects it to be a 911.

The price drop in and of itself typically doesn't impact used values. The excessively high incentives it was using already guaranteed that. As long as incentives aren't as high as they were, there usually isn't a direct impact to resale values from a reposition of the MSRP.

This is what happens when you let bean counters run your company and not passionate engineers!

This car is NOT an 8series - it is no different than previous 6series and continues to be based on 5series platform.

The bean counters decided to call it an 8series and jack up pricing without any substance behind it. The end result was a product that is DOA. Poor styling and meh interior also doesn’t help.

The work of modern Product managers. Their core competency: eating the seedcorn of brand equity and customer goodwill by recycling great old names and putting them on subpar modern products.

Lol, big price drop and it's still wildly overpriced in my opinion.
