I'm considering an x5/x7 to replace my m340i as well...need more space. The only thing I do not like are the engine choices:

-x5 40i is just the base b58 335hp engine
-x5 m50i base is another 20k comparatively but gets you the 523hp v8tt
-x5m is well...the x5m
I wish there was an intermediate engine in between the base 40i like the hipo 385hp b58.....they used to have the 456hp 450i, but that's gone now.

There's also the 45e but it might not be what you're looking for.

The X3 has same rear room as X5. The X5 seats are a bit wider.
The cargo room on X3 is larger as the loading floor sits much lower.

I compared the 2 extensively and chose X3 M40i with the 382hp inline 6.
The X5 interior is much more luxurious though. The lease program was also not great on X5 back then.

If i was buying today- I would get X3M as you get upgraded M seats, nicer leather, and the typical M touches.

I don't know if this is an assumption that is no longer valid. I thought the same. But when I put in similar car values and conditions on kbb, the GX and X5 depreciate about the same at two year mark. For similar prices, the X5 now actually offers a lot more than the GX, except the 3rd row std and towing/off road capacity.

I decided to test 20" and they feel smoother and more quiet, but do look outdated. 21" looks much nicer. So do the tires

The BMW X5 also received a 98 on the road test with Consumer's Reports the Lexus RX got a 77 they said the X5 was one of the best Midsized Luxury SUV's they have ever tested. Buy it! i did.
Awesome. Congrats.

If have not tried already, you should try the 4.0. It's quite fast (5.0 0-60?) and responsive.

I checked out the X3M and the interior felt incredibly cheap, barely upgraded from regular model. The doors especially felt tinny.

I mean the X5 costs a lot more to repair long term. I have a 2012 X5 with 65k miles, I had it since new. It probably cost BMW more in repairs than what I paid for it, but it has cost me a lot as well. This year alone I already spent roughly $6,500 on it in repairs, and we're only in April, lol. My 2021 X6M costs me about the same to lease.

Completely disagree but ok.

i have had my X3 over a year now.
Doors are heavy and close solid as they should on a luxury car.
No squeaks or rattles yet with almost 15k miles and driving on some of the worst roads lol

The X5 interior materials are on a higher level and the design overall is much more luxurious. This is reflected in the much higher price vs X3 as well.

The X3M I checked out did not feel much different in build quality and materials from a regular X3. Clearly it's a first gen M model for the X3, so I imagine the next gen is going to improve a lot. There are very good lease deals to be had on the X3M.

I already have an x3m, just want more seats for kids, h nice an x5 or x6.

Lease rates on x5 and x7 aren't great at all rn, as low inventory and high demand means hardly any subsidies.

I dont think leases are going to come down any time soon, the price of steel has tripled, and price of rhodium in the catalytic converter went up tenfold. Massive price increases on cars are coming.

Def get X7 - the X5 and especially X6 offer only a little bit more room inside.
The lease prices on them have always been high due to high demand and therefore BMW doesn’t need to subsidize it. Even during Nov/Dec last year, program wasn’t great.
GLE or Cayenne are even more money for comparable trim.

Thank you all for the feedback. I meant to post a reply sooner but been so busy. We also checked out Q7 and GLE. We decided to go with X5. Reliability is always something to be concerned; however, it's not going to be a long term car so why not try something new.

Congratulations on the new X5. It looks great. Is that the Cognac interior?

Beautiful SUV. The two piece trunk gate is the coolest!
