Is that even possible? To extend it?

My water heater prevents us from parking both cars in the garage. They will both fit on the other side, separately.

I’ve thought of something like that but figure it would cost a FORTUNE.

Really anything is possible, in your case, I'd be looking at moving the water heater in another spot....Most of the houses we've had, Had the washer/dry & water heater is a spot in the garage. I also see that ''BrettJacks'' is lives in Vegas, which most of the newer places only off a 200''-210'' vehicle to fit in. I believe his truck length is 225''-230''.....

Anything is possible, it just may not be financially feasible lol

Probably cheaper to get a tankless hot water setup

Yeah it's not worth trying to extend the garage. So I just park in the driveway. One side of the two-car garage has the washer and dryer against the back wall so it would stick out quite a bit. The other side would have my truck up against the wall as well as the garage door so i wouldn't be able to get around it to get to the washer and dryer.

Yeah. Current WH is brand new anyway, my home warranty wasn't about to replace the old one with tankless, lol.

That said, a brand new gas Rheem cost me only $500 out of pocket.

I thought these warranties were total scams but one of my BFFs swears by hers, so we did it. They also fixed our icemaker and had to come out several times, would have also cost a bunch. That repair was only $100.

Just throwing that out there bc we are talking about new homes and stuff.

Not to get too sidetracked, by my co-worker had a home warranty that covered his hot water heater, and he was without hot water for over a week because of the warranty company's rigid procedures as to assessing the repair, submitting the claim, shipping a new tank from an approved supplier, etc. Home warranties are hit or miss, depending on the repair. I can be without an ice maker for a week; hot water is another thing.

Our was still functioning when it went out, luckily.

Me personally I'd go to a family or friend's house to take a shower. Without the warranty it would have cost $2000. But yes, I know what you mean about their claims and stuff.

My point was I thought they were a total scam and it's actually saved us quite a bit of money, SW might want to look into it or anyone on here. AHS is the company.

Congrats on the new house...hope you got locked into a really good interest rate! Really tempted to re-fi my house again but not worth the extra cost.

switch to an instant gas hot water heater. very small, no tank, and get rid of the garage eyesore. win win.

We’ve all debated this too but in expensive neighborhoods, in my opinion, at least, the chances of something you’re describing are quite low. People who spend big bucks on houses want to keep them looking nice, generally speaking.

My neighborhood doesn’t have one and it’s quite lovely and nice.

speaking of garages... why do almost all builders (even on expensive homes) build them too small? drives me crazy how little space there is in a 2 or even 3 car garage if someone has the audacity to park 2 let alone 3 cars in it.

i have a 3 car, with a 2 wide opening and a 1 wide opening. the 1 wide opening i could barely get a miata into when i had one. i use it for my golf cart now.
the 2 car side, we put our two cars in there (infiniti and lexus coupes) and it's snug. i have to be careful getting in and out of the LC because of the long doors and as i park on the right side, i never let a passenger get in because of the likelihood they'd hit the door on the wall. i always back out first.

i've mulled over a few times just building another garage entirely and maybe making my current garage a workshop and/or den or expanding the rest of the house into it or something.

that of course would be a major construction project, i'm guessing $100K.

When we bought our house our realtor had the seller throw in the AHS warranty and like you, we were able to get our refrigerator fixed for free when it crapped out on us about six months into ownership. I was skeptical about them actually fixing it for free but sure enough they did and with no questions asked.

Yep. You can’t beat the price either, mine is $50 a month plus a flat $100 service call fee.

Like I said I was skeptical myself but my friend who has had all kinds of things fixed pool included is what made us pull the trigger. One of our a/c units has a leak and needs to be replaced and it will need a new kind of Freon. They won’t cover all of it I’m sure but some, we will see. $500 instead of $2000 for a sparkling brand new water heater was nice.

I would advise any homeowner anticipating replacing anything sooner rather than later to look into one of these. We knew damn well our old WH was on its last leg and needed to be replaced, they don’t care what condition any of your stuff is in.

Good question and one I have asked many times. Around me both two and three car garages are not that big with two car garages only being around 20’ x 20’ which isn’t big. When we were going to build a custom home we were going to do a four car garage and I was going to make sure it was both deep and wide because of how small most garages I’ve seen are.

As for hot water heaters, ours aren’t in the garage, they are typically inside the house likely due to cold weather so at least we don’t have that taking up more space in the garage.
