And if people are expecting more from Toyco, the 🤷. But I guess it's par for the course in mediocrity from Toyco these days ...

I see this and I think that Toyota needs to continue making hybrids as they aren't ready for this market yet. Lol. I hope they sell it at a discount to all the others at least.

Range isn't really impacted by power much. A Plaid has the same range essentially as the weaker regular LR with the same wheel package. The EPA test doesn't account for full throttle so if you drive both sedately, should have the same range. Also accelerating to 100mph fast or slow doesn't impact battery consumption much...its the constant fight with air resistance that zaps range vs. acceleration.

The reason its slow is that Toyota is cheaping out on the inverter and motor. Its not hard to make an EV fast but Toyota really cheaped out on the powertrain. I would have thought they would bring their A game for this.

Default Toyota's first EV has 280 mile range

The Toyota bz4X, which will be Toyota's first EV will have a solar roof and be offered in SUV with FWD and AWD options. I'm intrigued!

Toyota has always been conservative when it comes to "power". Your exactly right, EV's are very efficient so you can generate a lot of power with very little penalty when it comes to range, or MPG's. The F-150 which makes almost 600 whp gets 85 mpg if you compare it to a gasoline engine. The penalty is in the bigger battery pack

This thing doesn’t have the range to be a widespread model. I’m sure Toyota can add battery capacity if they want, but likely this will be more regional specific. If you watch the video from Toyota Japan, they show how the models can be scaled larger, so I am sure a larger battery can be added and you’d have a Highlander or larger size model. I like the bZ4X naming, I like the marketing behind it.

‘The 10 year 90% battery capacity is impressive
It’s a Toyota so it won’t have any of the battery fire issues that plague GM and Hyundai
No traditional sunroof
Still have to wait and charge the damn thing
At least it will be “Made in Japan”
Woke steering wheel lol

Anyways, I’d rather just get a regular RAV4 hybrid or a Highlander hybrid over this.

I certainly hope not! For now I'm sticking with the F-150 Lightning. I needs them 563 HP/775 ft. lbs torque!

The range is plenty for most commutes. I don't like the steering wheel, woke or un-woke . It definitely needs to have more power, but that's not a show stopper for me as using it as a commute car you really, honestly don't need a lot of power

Nope. Not enough, hybrid RAV4 or Highlander makes a better alternative to the bZ4X. It’s the same performance or close to it or speed.

Unfortunately, the specs are underwhelming. This is one of if not the slowest dedicated platform EV out there, and the range figures for WLTP are nothing to write home about. This comes across as just another vehicle made solely for the Toyota faithful who don't cross-shop with other brands.
