Gas stations are pretty packed here in GA
#78
I was around in the 70s. Not even close. In 1974, and 1979, gas lines not only stretched blocks-long, but went on month after month....along with massive price-increases. This latest round is minor in comparison, and has only been around for a week or so.
And that's because this latest round was caused by the temporary loss of only one pipeline......not a major cutoff of foreign imported oil from OPEC like we were dependent on in the 70s. The first cutoff was the result of an embargo....our national support for Israel in the 1973 Yom Kippur war. The second round, in 1979, was the result of the Muslim/Anti-American-takeover of Iran and the capture of American hostages.

I was lucky to have a diesel Ford van back then that survived the storm. Not only it started while the exhaust was still submerged under water and got me out of the warzone that was my neighborhood, but diesel was more or less available with no lines.
