Default Should Lexus Bring Back the LFA as an EV?

Hey, folks Palmer here from the ClubLexus front-page editorial team.

I see you've been discussing stuff like the new F-150 Lightning here in Car Chat. And we have too, which lead to one of our writers pitching an article about the Top 10 Discontinued Vehicles We Need to See Revived as EVs. Basically, what would happen if other brands followed Ford and GM's marketing strategies?

You can read the full list here -- https://electricvehicleforums.com/ar...evived-as-evs/

Spoiler alert, the LFA is on that list, which inspired me to write a dedicated LFA-focused post for ClubLexus, which you can read here if you like: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lfa...-as-an-ev.html

Cheers!

i like the idea of some kind of new lexus hybrid or even full EV supercar, as long as it's not in any way associated with the LFA name

Seeing as the entire identity of the LFA revolved around its V10 and the engine sound rather than pure speed, a silent EV would be a total 180 from its character.

I'm pretty sure many would drool over a high-perfomance Lexus EV no matter what they call it, but calling it an LFA would just do nothing more than bring out the same stupid "you ruined its legacy" arguments that we've seen pop up for the LR Defender and Mustang Mach E.

Nope. Need to turn the LS back into a proper luxury car with 400 mile range and call it the comeback for the legendary LS400.

Lexus should be embracing BEVs in general the LS would be a great place to start. High end, expensive tech showcase.

The Ls600h was a showcase of tech. Make it a EV.

I agree that the LFA is largely defined by the incredible V10 but, from a purely performance perspective, a BEV equivalent to the LFA could be in another league if it were properly implemented. You only have to look at the upcoming Tesla Roadster to see the potential.

so yes, an LFE would be most welcome.

yep that chassis is on a league of its own. Even without the HP of its rivals, it held its own on the nurburgring.

I would say the LFA is let down by its slow single clutch auto transmission.

An EV with interesting driving mechanics would be nice for a change. 0-60 is seriously overrated as a benchmark, unless only stop sign and drag performance matters.

As for the LFA's transmission... the IS-F one might just have been better, which says enough about that part. There's 100% others here that have driven (or are actively driving) both to pitch in on this

Lexus should not do the LFA as a EV.

"Redoing" the LFA as an EV is nonsense. EVs have completely different design considerations compared to ICEs (weight, battery vs. engine position, cooling, etc.) so it's ridiculous to talk about it this way. Any good EV, and especially any good sportscar EV, will be designed from the ground up and not based on an ICE powerplant design.

Suggest driving one first before making such comments.
