My dad was a used car dealer when I was little and I remember he and I went over to the house of another used car dealer he was friends with. We went over there to look at his white Plymouth Superbird to try and buy it. I can't remember what exact year it was but I had to be around 11 or 12 which would have been 1976 or 1977. I remember the car was sitting outside by his house and it was in fairly rough shape so it would have taken a lot of work to get it right. Can't remember how close we got to buying it but he didn't sell it to us. We ended up fixing up a 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MkII that me dad had traded for a few years earlier.

Interesting. I don't ever recall seeing a white Superbird, wth the wedge-nose and high trunk-mounted wing. People who bought those (or the twin Dodge Charger Daytona) usually chose one of the bright or pastel colors which Chrysler performance cars of that era were known for.....the Lime Green and Purple Plum Crazy were especially popular, as was the bright yellow on some of the Dodge Scat-Pack cars.

I remember the white paint on the nose was peeling and that vinyl roof would probably need replacing.

I regret with all my heart not buying a 2011 Lexus ISF with 60K on it in early 2020 that was selling for $25K. Now you won't find one less than $40K. Sigh...

Buy a Land Cruiser or LX right now, if they are your thing.

The only reason those cars were ever offered as street-machines is that NASCAR rules, at the time, forced it on manufacturers. They had to sell street versions if they wanted to run them on the track.

In fact, for a while, the Superbird and Daytona were not legal for sale in Maryland, because the state did not accept the wedge-front-end as a bumper.

I passed up buying my brother's 64 1/2 Mustang with ALL factory options, i.e., Hypo 289 Cobra engine, GT and gauge package, eight-track stereo, LSD, disc brakes, pony interior. After driving it for a year while my brother was in basic training, he wanted to sell it to me so he could buy my dad's 70 Z28 Camaro. Instead, I sold it to friend for $750 (in 1975).

Also passed on my brother's 70 Z28 Camaro that he sold after spinning a bearing at a Laguna Seca track day.

Finally, I didn't buy my dad's girlfriend's 63 split window Vette when she upgraded to a new one in 1980.

Been kicking myself over all three, ever since!

Mint Green LFA back in Ft Lauderdale Collection for less than msrp. It was either that or a new construction loft and in the end I didn't do neither. That was some crazy period in my life but somehow common sense has told me LFA is indeed a lot of money for a toy and it was probably right. Ten years later I regret it.

1997 Porsche 993 Targa, I was scared off by the non-working Targa top, but she was a beauty at a decent price (70k).

When I was 16 in the late 90s, I found a triple green 1969 Dodge Charger with the 318 and column shifter that I could have purchased for around $3,500. It needed a new trunk pan (and probably lots of other rust removal) and it wasn't an R/T or anything special, but man you couldn't find a semi-clean driver for that much today. Oh well.

Back in 1972 we were considering moving from NY to San Diego California. Before I made up my mind to move, a friend said I have to see this car stored in a warehouse in the city. Taking the freight elevator up to the 3rd floor covered in a tarp was an original 1966 427 cobra with 10,000 miles in black with a black interior. OMG and he is asking $10,000!! I had saved up about $7-8 thousand for the move so another $3000 was possible. BUT that warm california sun was calling! Guess what won!

This was 13 years ago, but a "friend of a friend" was selling his 1994 Honda Del Sol. Red, 44,000 miles, looked like a brand new car. Top trim, so it had the 160hp, 8,000rpm VTEC motor. I drove it, absolute riot, it was stock as rock, unmolested, survived the ricer fad. I really didn't have a good place to store it(just had a carport at the time) and I was kind of broke at the time, yeah $7000 was a good price but it would have been a bit of a swing for me to lay out the cash at that time when I had just been laid off from a good paying job.
