I agree. For some reason I find the Explorer really appealing

I just read up on the Explorer ST because I had been seeing almost 1 a day all the sudden. Definitely appealing to drive something that size with that power. Fun forsure.

However could be risky. They're such different cars and you didn't list your needs/priorities so kind of impossible to help you pick.

If it were me though, the Hybrid RX is one of my favorite vehicles and would definitely pick that, for my priorities. However if I was driving it everyday spending plenty of time with it and no family in the car...maybe I'd do the ST for a couple years.

Idk about your spouse but our 2.0 CUV when hauling the family puts down as much power as the wife would tolerate anyways lol....I wouldn't have any need for ST with them in the car.

I know I'd be getting some hard looks from my fam if I gave the ST all it had while merging on the freeway, etc. So maybe you don't really need all that for a family hauler. Besides, RX I can say without even testing will be much quieter and more comfortable.

RX if fuel economy and reliability matter to you. If you want power and looks get the St. If keeping the ST longer than 3 years def get the extended warranty.

Me too. I know a lot of people rag on it, but I like it. Honestly I'd take a Platinum Explorer over an Aviator.

Give the OP some time. It's only been two days. He or she may not be used to the kind of forum we have here, with (usually) quick responses. On some forums, one's question might sit for months without an answer.

Could be the OP is researching other vehicles or figuring out how many rows of seats he needs.......

what does the family need? if you need a 3rd row you have your answer.

between the two i would go for the explorer for the fun factor but it may not suit your true needs for the long term.

Yes, Porsche will custom-build one, with a third-row seat, on top of the rear-engine, just for that family.

They actually will, just not for $60,000

That’s really cool. I wonder if they could build a mid 90’s 911. 🤔

Just traded the Ms' Explorer ST for a Sonata N-Line. ST was awesome BUT gas guzzler (for her commute) and electrical Gremlins started popping up. 12K miles, was a blast, FAST, plenty of space but kids almost done with school and no long trips anymore or boats to pull. Definitely take over the Lexus, just be prepared for Ford electrical issues AND oil plug is dangerous issue.. if it catches on something, oil will drain about 10 seconds... have same concern on my Mustang GT

Good luck!!

Default RX vs. Explorer

RX450h:
pro: Lexus quality and resale value, solid mpg, although not as fast as Explorer ST, but it drives better than RX350 per multiple reviews
con: most likely last model year before the redesign, two row seating, bland styling, too many RXs on the road
Not sure what you mean by too many RX’s on the road, but that should be an indicator. I had one for a while, it’s a really great car. Highly recommend.
