This B58 is actually updated from your vehicle, it's significantly more powerful and comes with port injection and cylinder deactivation. I'm not sure it'll be as reliable because cylinder deactivation doesn't have a good track record, but at least it appears the changes are doing their job when everything works.

Yes, and they are usually higher than the published numbers too.

Oh I know, mine is the original, I think this one is a TU2. But I still love my version of it, and expect this newer one to be even better, but as you mentioned, nobody knows about reliability of it yet.

I have the OG B58 and love it. Can't imagine how much better the newer ones are.

i wouldn't be surprised if that "375"hp is more like 375 wheel hp

that car allegedly has 100 hp less than my E55 and is almost 300 lbs heavier, yet only takes 1 more second to do 0-100... of course AWD and a much quicker transmission with 3 extra gears makes up a huge amount of time in that initial 0-30 sprint, but it's still only 5 seconds slower to 150 mph

it's doing near identical levels of performance while using ½ as much fuel great engine the B58

HP is HP, it makes total sense that once you are at speed the gap happens since while the newer cars have much more effective average powerbands they can't magically summon more power. At high speeds TQ at a given RPM also starts to matter a hell of a lot more since once you are at those speeds you can be 1-2.5k RPM below redline depending on gear and force is what overcomes the wind resistance, turbos tend to heat soak on long pulls like that too.

Just found this video - apparently there's already been documented failures with the new B58 specifically because of the cylinder deactivation.

Cyl deactivation is never a good thing on any engine....I've never seen a system not cause issues.

Agreed, if even Honda and Toyota can't make it reliable, I can't see it being a good thing for anyone else to try.

Toyota hasn't used cylinder deactivation in any vehicle that I'm aware of.

I'm disappointed that Ford finally gave in and implemented cylinder deactivation on the most recent gen of the Coyote.

I'll keep my non-variable displacement Coyote and B58 tyvm.

It's only been 4 years, but I haven't heard any horror stories about Ford's implementation yet, and there have been a LOT of Coyotes sold in that timeframe. Every GM variant--including DFM, the current iteration--was replete with failures within months of launch. It seems like Ford might have gotten it right.

It can always be coded out, is automatically coded out if you add a supercharger (which of course you should do. ), and disabled temporarily in either sport or tow/haul mode. Even when enabled, it only operates during high speed low-throttle cruising.

I don't know enough about CD in the B58 yet to have formed an opinion yet.
