Oh I know y'all. I plan to replace fronts at first rotation time. Just doing two now because the fronts still have good tread, they aren't worn.

I'll blow through all of these off roading and then get the LTX as a replacement. The tire hazard thing is a really good perk if you go off roading and stuff.

It hasn't had an alignment in 25k so I had them do that, and change the oil. I ran about 8,000 miles on synthetic between changes. Most of that was the previous owner.

The funny thing is you can just abuse this like a Toyota truck. I don't abuse it, but what I mean is... be hard on it, it's not going to break.

Just replace them both now lol, why buy two tires and then replace them with another 4 tires?

I'm not. I'm buying the same kind I had. The fronts are still decent, but I'll replace them within 10k miles. So it will be 4 new tires total.

But you'll be left with lesser tires that are still wear mismatched.

Trust us on this one lol

I do but I'm only going to go to 7500 miles until I replace fronts, I don't see that making a significant difference. These are 65k mile tires, probably 10 or so less bc of the AWD.

But why wait 7,500 miles?

I'd rather spend $700 more 6-8 months later than $1400 now. We just dropped huge coin on our boat. Remember, I just piddle around town. I don't drive NEARLY as much as you and others. Let me see, we bought it in April and have put 5k on the LX in 8 months. And that will decrease as I continue to get better, I take daily drives for my xen or whatever which I won't be doing forever.

Tire place says that's fine, and they are dead honest. If not they'd be suggesting I replace all 4.

Tested out crawl control in a real situation yesterday, that was fun.

It wasn't a large area of mud, but it was the thick sloppy kind and there was an incline so a legit off-road situation was simulated.

First let me say that even stuck in it I could have just gunned it in high without touching any controls and been fine and gotten right out, just like in 85% of situations. I had fun trying that after the crawl control. It cracks me up when these Youtube reviewers turn low range on or suggest it when you can just gun it and let the AWD and A-Trac do its job without low range or activating any fancy stuff.

Crawl control is pretty neat. I just set it to mud and put it in reverse (I reversed out of the mud) and let it do its thing. Sure enough it crawled out of the deep stuff and brought me up out of it. It's pretty neat, when it senses you're slipping it takes a second and works it out and then you start moving again. It also raised the AHC to high. Fun stuff, I may go back today and see if locking the center diff makes any difference.

good experience, I am embarrassed to admit have never used crawl control in any of my LX. I guess I never needed to and I have been in many lite off roading situations where its mud or snow or large water bodies and the suv just go through anything.

Find some mud, you’ll have fun. Mudflaps are huge and protect the paint. I went back again to the mud and did it today. Same thing, crawl control. Just when you think you are stuck (A/T tires would fix it) it motors right out of it. All you have to do is steer. Truly an engineering marvel.

Also about the crawl control just FYI for buyers/enthusiasts....it's not just some set algorithm on each setting (mud, sand, rock, etc.) where power goes here or there and that's that, repeat.

The system has brains. This was deep mud I was in. For a second I was stuck. Then the next thing I knew it dredged right out. I was alone and made an audible gasp, it was that surprising and impressive. It's like it sits and "thinks" for a second. I was about to admit defeat and blame mostly A/S tires and just put it back in 4High and gun it out of there, but then the damn thing, crawl control pulled it right out of the mud. With some A/Ts this thing would be absolutely positively unstoppable.

Whenever we make it out west I look forward to doing some light rock crawling and seeing how it handles that as well, the crawl control. As well as fly down desert trails, lol.

Edit: Also it's closing in on a year we've had this truck and it's not seen one drop of gas above 87 octane and it never will. I'm certain the PO used premium. With gas so high and how thirsty this V8 in that has saved me considerable money. Gets about 13 city and 20 highway. Considerably better than the 12/17 it was rated.

Nice update. I think Toyota pioneered some of the tech you have on your body on frame LX. I am not a huge fan of all the electric parts that do this type of work, I think the TRO PRO 4R with the manually 4wd LO shifter that is directly connected to the transfer case is the ultimate set up the driver who want to go off road.

Does you LX have that rear wheel turn feature where it "BRAKES" the rear wheel to help in off road turns? A very innovative feature by Toyota.

Yes, it locks the inside rear wheel so it pivots like a tank. Useful in deep mud.

And yeah it is all electronically actuated...but I'm not worried about it. LOTS of money and engineering went into the 4WD system. I had no idea the crawl control has brains like this.

Yeah. It is pretty impressive. The Toyota full time systems with the torsen differential is the best system out of all manufactures IMO. I just love how I have nothing to ever worry about. Its always on. Always working. Both my SUV have electronic 4WD transfer cases for 4LO which I am not a big fan of. Your LX is the same. I also really like the hydraulic link suspension that keeps handling flat with almost no body roll. Crazy to think Lexus pull a Torsen full time mechanical awd system in the Lexus LS500h hybrid which is unusual as you would think Lexus would put an electric 4wd system in there.

Yep, like I've said. Just 4High without any low range or doodads will be fine for 85% of situations. It's really fun to pull out fast in the rain....it's like the tires are glued to the pavement from all the traction.
