i think there's a nostalgia for mazda because of their zoom zoom history, the miata/mx5, rx7/rx8 history, etc.
but to me there's nothing special about any mazda except the mx5.

I just drove one today, it absolutely has a premium feel. You have to compare it against its competition, compared to a CRV or Rav 4 the CX-5 has a much better interior. The CX-5 has materials that are way above the competition, really nice quality leather, real metal trim, real open pore wood trim, felt lined glove boxes and cubbies, etc. That Subaru may look nice in pictures, but in reality from a quality standpoint it doesn't hold a candle to the Mazda.
The picture you posted is also a pre-refresh car, and a low trim. The refresh has virtual gauges, etc.

i still don't think the mazda is all that. It's not terrible by any means though. And mazdas are typically enjoyable to drive.
They don't even have their own company name's domain working...
https://mazda.com
(it's mazdausa.com)
And the website doesn't have a gallery of photos.

You gotta see them in person, from a quality perspective for the segment and the money they are just on another level.
Personally, I would choose the CX-5 Signature over the Venza, over an NX too. Over a GLA or GLB too
And go to www.mazda.com, it works fine.

When you look at the luxury brands, in order to get the same feel and quality and level of equipment you need to spend $10-15k more. Theres not anything really in a mainstream vehicle that feels as premium. I was really impressed with the Venza, which is a lot of car for similar money, and bigger, but it doesnt have the same luxury features and the hybrid powertrain isn't for everybody.

For $45K cap could even get a base GV70, which is still awesome.
