LOL, it would be a fun third car!

Congratulations, INTMD8...beautiful.

Except for the zig-zag shifter, which I'm not a fan of, count me in with those who think that two-decade+ interior/dash layout is light-years ahead of that of a lot of luxury cars today, which are over-styled, have too many electronics, and too many functions on video-screens.

Amen to that. I love that clean old school dash and gauge cluster. Give me easy to use (and understand) physical buttons Everytime.

Totally. It looks so clean in there, and gorgeous. Minimalistic. I bet everything falls into hand perfectly (in my 430 it does).

I agree that LS interior is gorgeous. A fine reminder of why I find the Model 3 interior a total joke.

I had a 1997 Maxima loaded that had a way better interior, quality and feel (other than screens, etc.) than a $100,000 Model S.

I never saw many 400s with black interior, most were tan. I want this car, lol.

I've always wondered how the shifter felt in the old 400s without the zigzag. They appeared to be very high quality and looked satisfying to use.

It was perfect, lol. I had the LS400 without the zigzag and a GS430 with the zigzag, and with the LS400 you could shift from D to R and back in near instant. Helps for quick parallel parking in tight spots, rocking the car out of snow, and doing "no mercy reversies", lol.

I always loved the feel of the shifter in the 98 LS400, felt really solid and high quality

Lol, nice. What is a no mercy reversie? I've never heard of that. There's not much I see online about it either.

I have no problem with zigzag. I have it in both Lexus vehicles and like it fine. The shifter and materials are top notch quality.

It wouldn't matter how fast you could do it (if it wasn't zigzag) because you have to wait approximately one or two seconds for drive to engage from reverse (and vice versa) in an LS430, it's been discussed before. Rush it and you'll "bump" the transmission.

To be honest, I don't think any of the other Toyota Lexus shifters (zig-zag or not) had the quality of the solid metal rod and real chrome-ball that was used in the 1Gen Altezza/Lexus IS, although it could get hot in the sun. It was one of the reasons (among several) I purchased one.
