This is huge if it's true.

Mercedes Killing Nearly All V8s For 2022MY Due To Supply Issues

The culling was allegedly needed because of supply chain issues.

In our roundup of every vehicle being killed for the 2022 model year, one entry came from Mercedes-Benz and that's the Mercedes-AMG GT R. However, it seems like there's a long list to be added, according to a Reddit post from user bsw1234, who provided proof to the moderators of the r/cars thread.

According to the post, nearly all V8-powered Mercedes vehicles, including all AMGs, aren't going to be sold in the US for the 2022 model year. The reason for the culling is connected, but not limited to, global supply chain issues.

These models include AMG C63, AMG GLC 63, AMG E63, GLE 580, AMG GLE 63, AMG GLS 63, GLS600 Maybach, G550, and AMG G63. Only the S580 and S580 Maybach are spared by the said onslaught, according to the unposted document (due to privacy concerns).

Included text in the document that's posted on the thread seeks to provide an explanation:
MBAG has prioritized its focus to comply with various global, external and internal requirements, as well as several other factors, including but not limited to, challenges in the supply chain that have an impact on the product portfolio offered in the US market.
However, we have to point out that the alleged announcement will remain a rumor at this point until an official word from Mercedes-Benz comes out, if at all.

More importantly, the duration of the said move to cancel all V8s for 2022 isn’t clear at this point. But it goes without saying that it's going to be temporary, though Mercedes has already confirmed that the AMG C63 will be downsizing to a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, moving forward.

We'll know more about this development in the next few days or so. Meanwhile, if you've ordered a 2022 model of one of the cars mentioned above, you might want to contact your dealer to verify the information.

We've known for some time that most V8s would be dropped from most manufacturers. Only a very few would remain.

Without V8s MB loses its entire appeal. Their latest cars have already lost all of their rod presence, and their interiors are just blah. I'm sure they'll still sell a ton of their bread and butter models, but rich Russian oligarchs and Saudi sheikhs will lose interest.

Didn’t TMC axe its V8 TT?
To focus on electrification.

What is going to power the Gwagon?!
Almost everyone i have seen is a G63amg.

Also the AMG GT sports car is also V8 only.

Sad times for consumers ahead.

Maybe people didn't see the memo, but countries like germany are hell bent on eliminating ICE vehicles ASAP, so mb has little choice.

And then v6's, because we're going to be left with hybrid 4s, phev 4s, and turbo 4s, and that's it besides EVs.

the turbo 4s will then be banned, leaving us only with partially or fully 'electrified' vehicles. Then the hybrids will go, and eventually the phevs too.

Yep. It sucks and is very very depressing. At least we were alive when cars were at the peak of their ICE era, I guess.

Another reason to just hold on to what you've got, if someone has a vehicle with a good V8.

Not just Germany but basically all of Eurasia. The only reason the U.S. hasn't done the same is because we still enjoy cheap gas relative to the rest of the world. Even then, I seriously doubt that will last for long in light of events like today...

I somewhat disagree. Americans are stubborn. I know endless people (from all political spectrums) who hate EVs just as much as I do and do not want them. Then all this forced electrification will turn into people being even more stubborn, and we know how that goes in this country. My 70 y/o mother knows a little about cars, said she would keep her Enclave indefinitely and just never buy another car again. That car has a great V6. There will be people like me driving ancient LX570s, and adding to the reasons I'll keep it until I'm dead is the Marlboro Man 5.7 V8 rumbling under the hood.

You can lead an American to water, but can't force him/her to drink it. There will be tonnnnnnns of us who just won't be having EVs, huge pushback.
