2022 Lexus LX600 (4th gen)

Yep. 10 speeds is too many and is clearly geared for fuel economy. 5.7 sucked down gas but with the 6 speed automatic which they did not tune for fuel economy it is fast, feels quite nice. It's always in the right gear. I love the newer LXs but I don't want that 8 speed automatic. It added almost a second to the 0-60 time.
I am getting antsy because nobody will road test anything with this engine yet with numbers. I can't wait to see more about this LX.

Calling this Lx600 with only a 3.5 V6 engine 🤦♂️
What next LX1000 with super battery pack…
I doubt this will sell any better than current LX.
It’s a new model that really doesn’t move the needle in the segment or against MB/BMW/RangeRover.

It's funny, I'm actually working on editing my review of the last V8 LX right now. And while I love that 5.7, I tried to put the new engine into context after driving the LS 500 and Ford's version of the 3.5L TT V6. In short, while the V8s sound better, the extra torque from the TTV6 is a lot of fun. And this will be even more apparent on the new, lighter LX platform.

Put a super on the V8......it's no contest then. The 6 is simply a worse engine, it doesn't help that the 0-60 times are looking slower than the old car already. I wonder what happens when you drive it super hard and heat soak it to hell......it will probably be like the LS500 and lose 1/3 of the power after 6 limiter pulls.

My lc500 has v8 and 10 speeds and it's fine. If you drive in sport or sport+ mode it limits the transmission to the first 8 because obviously 9 and 10 are just for loping down the highway with good mpg.

I'm not surprised. I think it's the rubber. Maybe they need more rubber. Like the GLE vs. X5. 21" looks tiny on X5 but not so much on GLE.

I don't need to. I've driven one with 8 and that was too much. 40 gear transmissions are there as a fuel saving measure, and that's it. I have ALWAYS said cars doesn't need more than 6 gears. 5 even. But then again I'm the guy who says cars don't need AFM or start stop, or hybrid assist on a damn V8 S-class.
That's just A LOT of complexity, shuffling up and down through that many gears. It has been noted in professional reviews.
I'm sure I'd get used to it and it would be fine but that is not a good selling point. These complex transmissions have not been especially reliable either. A tried and true 6 speed automatic is what I would want in any car I drive. They added the 8 speed auto to the LX which completely changed the driving experience and slowed it down considerably, almost a second 0-60. New tech isn't always better. All to eek out 1 MPG more. Not trying to pull out measuring tape but my '14 with the gearing and aggressive transmission tuning (in power mode especially) would absolutely smoke the newest ones, and is always in the right gear.
Back to the new LX, we'll probably buy one of these in 5-8 years. I really, really like it. Other than the V8 being gone but I can deal with it I guess. Just the sounds the 5.7 makes, I hardly ever turn the radio on. It grunts and burbles and the sound is intoxicating.

Sorry, but that doesn't mean anything. The number of gears isn't the issue, its how the transmission is designed. My S Class has a 9 speed, and it shifts and feels great, my Pacifica has a 9 speed and its terrible. No two transmissions are the same just because they have the same number of gears.
With these high speed transmissions several of the taller upper gears are only for highway cruising. My S Class shows what gear its in, and it only hits 9th over 75 MPH, and only hits 8 over about 68 MPH. So below those speeds, its effectively a 7 speed, and around town, its really a 5-6 speed.
I checked my overall MPG in the S Class the other day...19.8 over 14,600 miles...which is incredible for a high powered, heavy AWD V8 car. Thats thanks to the twin turbo motor, and the transmission. Remember my auto start/stop is disabled.
