The reviews have all said the opposite. I would agree the application in the LS500 feels that way, but that doesn't mean they haven't further refined this engine for this application.

maybe I haven't driven the lx600; but pretty much anything else lexus (v6) makes including the ls500 just didn't feel smooth. usually the people who review these cars haven't really owned the prior model (hope I am wrong as I absolutely love the LX platform) One of the. main reasons I didn't get a LS500.

Same here, but I think the reviewers have plenty of experience with V8 vehicles to compare. Many of the reviews noted the coarseness in the engine of the LS500. We should drive it and see before we pass judgement on it.

Right but the old V8 didn't lack pep or response....at all. It just made the environmentally friendly inclined mad because it got bad gas mileage, forget that it's a 300k+ engine just oil changes. Plenty of torque, I live in a very hilly region...you should see the inclines this thing lugs up in high gears (and low RPMs) without even becoming close to breaking a sweat, and it's easily the heaviest truck the 5.7 has to lug around that was made.

I also find it interesting that now everyone prefers a FI power band rather than a NA one. I'm not just saying this bc I don't own a turbo, but I like nice torque down low and then a regular "wind out" of an engine. You can have plenty of both in a non-turbo engine.

I also might add that even with all this extra power, it's still not that much faster than the older heavier 6 speed LX per Car and Driver. Old 6speed LX actually has a faster 50-70 times than this new one is, showing how well geared the old ones are for passing maneuvers and the responsiveness of the V8. But who cares I guess.

I had hoped it would break into the 5s at least and was expecting it to, but 6.1 is quick enough. I'm sure it feels good to drive. I'm glad it gets better gas mileage for the people who place that high on their lists. It came at the expense of a damn good V8 that's for sure.

I've been in an LS500 and it was awful, the sounds it made and the artificial sounds, too. Wasn't particularly smooth, not even in same universe as my old V8 LS..

Go drive it ASAP!!! I've heard flattering to not so flattering things about it. I will also note that while it's a given the V8 is gone and never coming back, most legit reviews have at least given the old V8 a nod of respect. Calling it 'lovely, burbly, etc." "Toyota's lovely V8 has been dropped" etc.

Exactly. The new LX feels marginally better because it has a little more HP and is somewhat lighter

For me, it was owning one. Until I owned one I never really got the rationale for why they are better. If you like nice torque down low and a wind out, you will love a TT engine.

Thats not what it is, its the lower end torque curve of the TTV6. Horsepower has nothing to do with getting a vehicle moving from a stop and at the low end, its torque. Peak torque of the TTV6 is like what, 2,300 RPM and the V8 was 4800 or something like that. Thats the difference.

It's just the way the torque curve goes from nothing to max so quickly (imagine on the chart), I'm sure the boost would be amazing in a good V8, but still winding a good NA engine out is fun.

Peak torque was 381 @ 3400 RPM. 90% of it was available at 2200RPM. The new one feels great I'm sure but the old one wasn't lacking torque that's for sure, very strong below and above 2000RPM.

I do want to drive one of these, for sure. Maybe in a couple years when used ones pop up.

For a car I agree with what some are saying (especially an in-line 6 turbo engine) and really like having a turbo engine but I still don’t like it for a truck/large SUV regardless of what the stats say or when peak torque is reached. I haven’t driven the new LX but I wonder what the area under the torque curve is like vs. the old V8 engine. Having the effortless torque of a NA engine in a large SUV just feels better/right to me, I just don’t see how a V6TT can match that feeling regardless of stats but I will have to test drive one to be sure.

A turbo in a Toyota SUV would be irrelevant to me. I’d just rather have a V8 than any V6 (turbo or not) if I had the choice. I currently have a V8 4R and a V6 4R, the V8 is a superior experience


‘As for the bold, Toyota does have turbos in their Land Cruiser pick up. It’s a diesel though. They have also had inline 6 turbos in the third Land Cruisers as well. And past Lexus LX have had V8 turbo diesels. We just never see them in North America

5.7 is @3600rpm. 4.7 was @3400rpm
