They are not even at dealers lot for more than a day before selling out.

It's not competitive to an Escalade, Navi, X7, etc. but there is a market for these and they do serve a purpose.

Yup, they will sell every single one they make. I just love that saying . The profit margins on the LX has to be somewhere like 40%

Land Rover Defender added a 5.0L V8 to the model this year. Hopefully Lexus is watching

That's the very old supercharged V8. Land Rover stopped developing all V8 engines and has now shifted to buying them from BMW. It would only validate Lexus's move away from V8's.

that's not saying much. they'll only send as many as demand is showing and i predict the demand is very low.

as of end of march, they'd sold 1572 in the u.s.
escalade sales were 'down' to 9228 in the u.s. for the same quarter.
mercedes gls were 5621 for the quarter.

with only 244 lexus dealers in the u.s. that's an average of between 6 and 7 LX per dealer for the quarter, or 2 a month.

That Defender V8 is pretty amazing, even though it's not a new powertrain. I got to drive one for a week last fall. Sounds amazing. Quick acceleration. Much better driving SUV than the LX; smoother, less body roll. (Although I wouldn't trust a Defender out of warranty)

That being said, outside of the realm of 600 horsepower SUVs... these twin-turbo V6s are more suited to heavy trucks and SUVs than the 2UR-GSE from the LC, RC F, and IS 500. I get to drive a lot of Fords for this job, and Ford's 5.0 Coyote V8 is pretty similar to the 2UR in the way it revs and builds power. And, although it sounds better, it's down on torque which isn't great for these heavy body-on-frame vehicles.

Well one can look at it this way. There's a multi year wait on the Land Cruiser. They can only allocate so much to Lexus without throwing off the wait time balance.

And then there are rumors that the Land Cruiser is coming back which anybody could have guessed.

How will they even get those for us if they can't get any LXs?

Because they can get all the LXs we could possibly want. This is all just manufactured scarcity and smoke and mirrors.

1UR, 2UR and 3UR are all related. Lexus could have added direct injection to the 5.7. Rework it a little.

so easy to type simplistic statements about what a car maker could have done or should do. massively harder to execute, especially in light of supply chain planning, and may not make sense to execute at all in context of other objectives.

Toyota is the largest automaker in the world. Pretty easy to update the 5.7 …. They have had 16 years to so as it’s so ancient I mean they brought back the 5.0L to the IS…how old is that engine?

So you think this is all a show? Like I said in 2 years I've seen one, and it was only on a test drive.

I've always maintained LX isn't their best seller obviously but why would Lexus not want to make the HUGE profit off of each one of these?

Toyota could have easily updated the 5.7 to bring it comfortably over 400hp and made it more fuel efficient.

Engine age doesn't really matter to me either. 3800s were around for 25 years, just updated continually. Same with a Chevy V8, basically.

Toyota 5.0 is a 15 year old engine but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
