2022 Subaru WRX

From the first post, which quotes the Autoblog article:
Aside from the larger displacement, this engine also features a turbocharger with an electronic wastegate. The end result is hard to judge by looking at the specs, because on paper the new engine only makes 3 extra horsepower (271 versus 268, both at 5,600 rpm) and generates the same 259 pound-feet of torque over the range of 2,000 to 5,200 rpm in both cases. Subaru representatives are quick to point out that the power and torque curves are both broader and flatter outside of these peak values, which does ring true considering the extra 400cc of displacement.

Exterior design has a lot of Toyota influence, that's for sure. From the A-pillar to the back, it looks a heck of a lot like the Corolla, and the cladding looks just like the Lexus UX.
Pretty sure this car will be the basis for the upcoming GR Corolla. Maybe they're saving the hatch version for the GR, while the WRX is sedan-only.

I don't think the exterior is horrible, WRX's were never good looking cars and I think the STi versions have a chance to look pretty cool with the spoiler, bigger wheels, lower, possible body kit. I just don't like that plain interior, no physical controls or character, everything buried in a big goofy looking screen.

They have a “sporty” sedan with the top GT trim that has all the cool features only offered in a CVT when most of the WRX customers get a manual. I mean this is just strange. The overall reception to this car has been very negative.

Subaru reported that this model is actually lighter than the current one.

Wow, that's an about-face for the Impreza WRX. And to think we once complained about "questionable" styling a few generations ago. Now it looks like it's trying to be a crossover/SUV... barf. At least it is still what it is supposed to be mechanically.
On the bright side the FA24 engine has greatly improved the BRZ/GR86 in naturally aspirated form and seems set to do the same for the WRX in turbo form. In both cars the response and torque curves appear to be improved quite a bit.
The interior looks very unappealing though. I like the analog gauges and 6-speed manual transmission, couldn't care less about the EyeSight safety suite features it won't have and I really, really do not care for that ugly and oppressive touchscreen dominating the center of the dashboard. It's far too much and very distracting in a driver focused high performance model.
The wheel gaps are unfortunately not very wide since now owners will have to buy coil-overs and camber plate adjustment kits among other things just to get this too-high-riding WRX's ride height to look more like how one of these cars is supposed to. It looks like it is trying to be a Crosstrek sedan. Yuck. The styling of those Crosstreks appeal to whom they appeal to and those buyers don't like previous WRX styling. Similarly the styling of previous WRX's appeals to buyers and fans of the WRX.... who are not usually interested in the styling of a Crosstrek when they're looking at a WRX or STI on the dealer lot.
If body paint color side cladding and bumpers won't be a factory option it will certainly be something buyers will want to have done after purchase. The cladding and bumpers are incredibly ugly and made the car look like a very cheap base model penalty car.
Hopefully the WRX STI won't look like this and hopefully this won't be the only available look for the regular WRX on the order sheets.

There are many exact details that they haven't given at this point.

Looks like **** imo, and that's coming from a guy who's owned 3 Subarus. I'm guessing that they invested all the real R&D money into the crossover models and EVs
I won't consider another Subie until they ditch the terribad CVT. My wife's Crosstrek is never in the power band when I need it to be and it takes about 10 seconds to switch from Reverse to Drive. Never again
