From the press release.

"The front fenders are now made of aluminum which reduces the overall vehicle weight by 5.0 lb."

A 5 lb overall vehicle weight reduction isn't going to help with acceleration.

Nevertheless, the vehicle is lighter.

The point is. This new vehicle did not get any heavier. Generally speaking, new models get heavier each refresh because of new tech or new regulations or size increases . My guess is that the new vehicle is also more fuel efficient or the same.

It must be all that black plastic trim saving weight over normal painted bumpers and fenders.
This car is a complete disaster in terms of styling and performance.
- 3hp increase for a new model?!
- CVT as the only transmission on the top performance trim?!
- Calling a CVT an 8speed Subaru Sport trans?!

I used to have 2 Subarus so i like the brand but they really have lost my respect with these decisions.

Default Pricing Announced

Pricing Announced

I really hope that this is due to the state of the supply chain. While I would expect prices to increase, a WRX Limited is $8k more than what I paid for mine in 2014, with the only major difference to this trim being the Harmon Kardon audio system. I'm in my mid 30s. For a car approaching $40k range, I expect more.

2014 is 8 years ago. so $1k a year. no biggie.

and i've no doubt there's a lot more changes than the audio.

so buy an old one.

as for 3hp it's not about peak #'s only:

Subaru representatives are quick to point out that the power and torque curves are both broader and flatter outside of these peak values, which does ring true considering the extra 400cc of displacement.

Wow, looks mundane and the rear tails are giving off Civic vibes. I'll have to see one in person but so far, not a fan. My favorite style was the 04-05 blob eye.

I've owned 2 STI's a 2019 & 2021. Dunno about the new one I traded my 2021 STI for my IS500 & couldn't be happier.
