And that Explorer was driven in many heavy snow situations, on road, off road. We pulled cars out of ditches with it. Driven all over the place in WV off-road, never had any need for 4WD High mode.

Just read the review here. Wow. Never knew that set up existed. The Explorer can send all 100% of the 4WD to the front. So cool

So can my Encore GX....and the Chevy Trailblazer. All I have to do is push that little button on the console, and it instantly shifts the system between 100% FWD and a torque-split of AWD power to all four wheels.

That’s not the same at all. The equivalent would be your car being able to send 100% of its power to the rear, which it can’t.

I would use 4A on the highway but I would absolutely want 4HI for off-road situations where you want an actual locked transfer case rather than having the computer remove and apply power as it sees fit.

I would prefer if they just enclosed the bottom area and bring it up to the seat level. At least you’d have some sort of storage area.

Glad it worked, but for towing cars out of ditches 4 High would absolutely be indicated, not Auto. That was a strange omission.

Re: Sequoyah and rear, I wonder how much that "tray" is capable of supporting. Doesn't look like too much.

Yeah, was pretty cool for 1995. Control Trac.

As was said that is not the same, your Encore is a FWD based vehicle, my Explorer was a RWD based BOF vehicle.

But if given the choice between 4A and 4H, which would you want? I would want 4A. Gonna use that way more, and you still have the 4L for serious offroad situations.

Used 4L for that.

I think the omission of 4A in this Sequoia is way stranger than the omission of 4H in that Explorer. For the everyday user, 4A is way more useful than 4H. The vast majority of Sequoias will never leave the road.

Agree.

In other news, I think we've all done a good and objective job of scrutinizing this new truck the good and the bad. There should be an option to pass on the hybrid to get proper truck room; comparing this new one to the old one with the rear shot doesn't even seem close.

Knowing Toyota's weird ways they'll probably offer the non-hybrid in a year or so down the line.
