The First gen Sequoia and 2nd gen Sequoia were multi mode 4WD. 2WD, full time 4WD,, 4WD Center diff locked hi and 4WD locked low (all bundled in the same transfer). Same with 4Runner V6 03-09. Toyota could have just used the same transfer case. Someone who has a 22 Sequoia can leave the transfer case in full time 4WD and never change it and they have the same thing as Land Cruiser/4R. New 2023 Sequoia brings buyers back to a time of the 1980s
I will say, beautiful SUV…but terrible execution
Mike Sweers gets credit for keeping the Sequoia alive, but he gets the blame for terrible execution and design choices in the previous Tundra, this and last gen Sequoia and current Tacoma with either weak C channel frames, poor powertrain choices or just weird design decisions. It's like he engineers them but never really uses them in practice. I understand the 3rd isnt removable to help protect the battery, but there is no reason for the lack of auto 4WD and a sliding 2nd row seat.

Agree. WTF were they thinking. Just the standard 3.4tt is plenty for that.
Someone posted pics of this versus old with seats folded down, difference isn't even close. How a Toyota engineer(s) allowed that to fly is beyond me, even in the name of "going green". I don't want a hybrid motor anyway which is what ruins the whole cargo area.

Right, but the Sequoyah with just the Tundra engine forgetting the hybrid BS would still have plenty of power. And probably decent track times.
That rear cargo is just a disaster in the way DJT calls stuff disasters (making a joke/point, I just said his name nothing else).
Yes, the non-hybrid version like I said. Or better yet, bring back the 5.7 V8 and its full time AWD and suspension and just add the 10 speed auto.
The Rumbling Marlboro Man (that's the nickname for my 5.7) is gone forever, it's a shame. This new 3.4tt seems to be legit but it's only there for fuel economy. It's in a lot of Toyotas/Lex now so we'll see how it holds up over time.
It is a total afterthought. The lead engineer said it was originally cancelled and they had to convince Toyota to make it. Toyota should have just gone back to the 1990s roots and sell the Land Cruiser in a variety of configurations. 2 row, 3 row. Could have had full time time 4WD too. For more than 30 years, Toyota had a full 4WD SUV.

I agree. Styling is superb. Better than the Tundra.
Toyota Australia, look how they colour key the running boards for top trim. This is how they have been doing it for years. New LX for USA gets basic black. It’s like the USA stuff is just not as good. Toyota also deleted running boards for the 2022 4Runner Limited….such cheapskates.
