Too much of a crossover, SUV, wagon mashup - but apparently that is what sells in droves today. I can't believe i'm saying this, but the outgoing Avalon looks better to me than the new Crown.
Definitely not a fan of the back quarter side window. I like it incorporated into the rear door how we have it on the ES. If Toyota does make the ES off the Crown, I hope they drastically re-skin it. The other option is to make the next gen Camry bigger, then base the ES off that. The new Accord for 2024 is a MONSTER (massive) and the Camry would logically need to match.
24 accord patents leaked two days ago, and someone did a rendering based off that. keep in mind the current Accord is nearly identical in every dimension to the 7ES. So this new accord is said to be even bigger.

With the Avalon going, I hope they find a different platform for the 8ES, not off the Camry. That “it’s just a fancy Camry” has been beat to death and does hurt he car’s reputation. At least starting with the Crown, if they do, it gives Lexus a chance to do some good work. I just hope they don’t lose their way and push more toward sport and less to luxury like so many brands have done.
The Camry isn't going anywhere, and it will undoubtedly get larger. Which makes it the perfect platform for the 8ES. But I agree it's a bad stigma to have, but largely it doesn't really affect sales. Just something people on forums know.
The hatchwagon thing is interesting, sedan is atrocious.
Often I wonder if Toyota deliberately makes Camry, Crown, C-HR, RAV4 and Higlander deliberately unattractive, to force consumers to purchase the more attractive looking Lexus ES, GS, UX, NX and RX.

No I think they legit consider their styling language to be desirable.

If that was the intent clearly it’s not working camry, rav4, highlander easily outsell pretty much everything else in their respective segments 😀

Most Lexus models are not very nice to look at.
The main reason to produce “fashion” designs is so people will upgrade like a pair of sun glasses as they become clearly dated.
If they produce timeless elegant designs, people wouldn’t want to upgrade.
Certainly doesn't look very premium. If that's going to be the 8th gen ES they have their work cut out for them! Nothing that wants to call itself a luxury car should have cheap plastic cladding at the wheel arches.
