Oct 6, 2021 Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported Q3 2021 sales of 55,130 Mercedes-Benz models. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz Vans recorded Q3 sales of 16,055 bringing MBUSA to a grand total of 71,185 vehicles for the quarter, a decrease of -16.4% over the comparable period last year. On a year-to-date basis, MBUSA recorded sales of 215,776 Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles and 37,767 Vans. This brings MBUSA's total year-to-date sales to 253,543 units, an increase of 9.9% versus 2020.

"Despite very strong demand across our lineup, the global semiconductor shortage created some supply challenges in Q3," said Dimitris Psillakis, President and CEO of MBUSA. "Looking ahead, we are encouraged by the commitment of our dealer partners and the addition of the all new Mercedes-EQS to our lineup."

Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in Q3 included the GLE, C-Class and GLC model lines. The GLE led totals with 11,874 units followed by C-Class with sales of 11,289. The GLC rounded out the top three with 7,982 units. Year-to-date, MBUSA's volume leaders were the GLE, GLC and C-Class with totals of 47,579; 38,131; and 29,084 respectively. SUVs accounted for 66.8% of total sales in 2021.

Q3 sales of Mercedes-AMG high-performance models totaled 7,184 units (-21.2%) with 31,384 vehicles sold year-to-date (36.7%).

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 36,446 vehicles during the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 4.1% versus Q3 2020. On a year-to- date basis, MBCPO sold 110,325 vehicles, an increase of 15.2% compared to last year.

Porsche reports Q3 2021 U.S. retail sales

10/01/2021Deliveries for year so far are strong amid high demand across model lines

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) today announced U.S. retail deliveries in the third quarter of 2021 totaled 15,289 vehicles, down 1.7 percent from the same quarter a year ago due mainly to global automotive supply chain headwinds. Still, deliveries for the first nine months achieved a record of 51,615 vehicles, 29.9 percent higher than in January-September 2020 and also better than the same period in the pre-pandemic year 2019.

PCNA is the sole licensed importer and distributor of the Porsche 911, 718 Boxster, 718 Cayman, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan.

“Demand is as strong as we’ve ever seen – helped by being able to provide the most complete and attractive experience ever, from the range of fresh, relevant and desirable cars, to the ownership experience and level of personalization we now offer, and to the commitment and expertise of our dealers. It’s not one initiative, but many working in parallel – a great, global team effort,” said Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of PCNA. “We just saw this emotional connection confirmed by the latest J.D. Power APEAL Study of customer experience with a new car, which ranked Porsche as the number one premium brand for the third year in a row.”

Third quarter growth in deliveries was led by the 911, which was up 3.4 percent from Q3 last year and 5.1 percent year-to-date compared to the first nine months of 2020. Retail sales of the all-electric Porsche Taycan edged 0.2 percent ahead of the previous year’s quarter and more than doubled year-to-date from the same period in 2020. Cayenne and Panamera deliveries in the third quarter also rose from a year earlier.

Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) U.S. sales declined 8 percent in Q3 from the same period a year earlier, to 7,071, for a total in the first nine months of 21,648 vehicles, up 7 percent from the third quarter of 2020.

Default Porsche Taycan EV outselling the 911

The all-electric Porsche Taycan outsold the German automaker's iconic internal combustion-powered 911 sports car in the first nine months of the year, a milestone for the EV that was introduced in late 2019.

The sales figures released Friday show that Porsche delivered 217,198 vehicles worldwide in the first three quarters, a 13% increase year over year. The results were driven by a nearly threefold increase in Taycan deliveries — as well as growth by its popular gas-powered Macan. Those figures show Porsche recovered from the 5% dip in sales it experienced in the nine-month period between 2019 and 2020.

While the gas-powered Porsche Cayenne led the portfolio with 62,451 vehicles delivered in the first nine months of the year, it actually represents a 2.8% decline from the same time period in 2020. Strong demand for the smaller Macan, which saw a 12% increase in deliveries to 61,944 vehicles, the Taycan and 911 helped fuel Porsche's overall increase.

Porsche delivered 28,640 Taycans in the January-to-September period. Porsche 911 deliveries were 27,972, a 10% increase from the same period last year.

Porsche delivered 20,275 Panameras and 15,916 of its 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman vehicles, all of which rose about 1% from last year.

While the bulk of Porsche sales are represented by combustion vehicles, the success of the Taycan could bolster the company's push into EVs. Porsche plans to introduce an all-electric version of the Macan in 2023.

This headline is nonsense.
Go on Porsche forums - you can’t get a 911 allocation, forget about GT3. I’m talking about a regular base 911. Plenty of Macans and Taycans though…..I’m not sure if its emissions or chip shortage but i think YTD there was about 60% reduction in 911 production vs normal year.

Same goes for Boxster/Cayman - zero inventory.

article clearly says 10% increase in 911 sales for 9 months this year, delays are in general because of the shortage but also demand. I believe GT3 was a 2 year wait way before chip shortage (friend has one on order)

As my post said, you can’t get allocations for a base 911 even. You are looking at 1st quarter of 2022.

The point remains they are focusing production capabilities on Taycan rather than 911.

There is plenty of Taycan inventory while 0 911s across the US.

Interesting article on MB results.

Put simply, they're amazing and shows a company handling a crisis incredibly well. And they're going all electric ASAP.
