On a side note, GS had a strange "issue" with the transmission today (6-speed). In manual mode, at about 60 mph, there was no engine power when the accelerator was pressed, whether partial or full throttle, but in auto mode, everthing worked fine. This was in the mountains, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, no codes appeared.
it sounds like that "issue" is nothing more than the car staying in 6th since you're in manual mode... at those speeds the engine is barely over 1500rpm which is far away from where that V6 starts to really make good power

I am hoping you are correct, but, if I remember correctly, I did down shift to 4th gear and floored it, the rpm climbed very slowly and no noticeable increase in speed. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

my suggestion was gonna be to first downshift and then give it some gas lol
i'd also bring this over to the GS forum for more specific advice... and if you haven't already get a little ELM327 wifi adaptor which (when paired with the appropriate app) will let you read and even clear any codes that may be stored

Thank you, Stroock639. You were right, it was a silly overlook on my part. On the way in to work, on the interstate, I put the car in manual mode, downshifted, hit the gas, and worked as it should. Earlier silliness must of been due to the thin mountain air, well that’s the fib I’m telling😂. Thanks for the help!
If the OP can afford it, I would look at used 2013 GS350s as well. I know OP said they were looking at 2010-2012, but remember that there was no 2012 GS in North America. The 2013 model came out in January 2012, if I remember correctly.

The 4th gen GS is a superb car. The only thing it lacked was a high end powertrain which finally came with the GSF...which was unfortunately way overpriced. The 4th gen GS was waaaaay better than the ES of the same timeframe IMO. I had a couple fully loaded ES models as loaners and a GS model once. The GS was really impressive. Hopefully the OP takes a look at this generation.

yea with that thin air and no forced induction to compensate it's definitely gonna feel more sluggish up there
The ES350 is not more reliable than a GS350. They are basically equals in that regard.
They are likely very similar in reliability if they are driven in the same way. I don't have either car, but from responses and what I see, it seems a GS is driven more as a sports car than a premium family car / business sedan.

Thats the fallacy. Most people drive them the same.
The GS is not a sports car. It is absolutely built to be able to have some fun with it, though. Having fun on an on ramp is something the car was made to do and it's not going to turn it into something that isn't reliable long term.
I am going to be buying a used Lexus sedan and need help deciding between the ES and GS models, both of which I like. Years will probably be between 2010-2012. I need advice from people who have driven these models. I like the GS for the AWD (MN winters) but hear the back seat is cramped and possibly head room issues? Is the AWD system reliable?.
The ES is a fantastic ride, luxurious! The GS is a little stiffer and back seat is a little harder to get in if you are an older person or have back issues, I think because of the higher wheel well. I had an ES before my RX, it had fantastic gas mileage, avg in city driving 24-26 mpg and 30 on highway. A really good vehicle! I think both models are great, but if you like to sit a little higher in a vehicle, the GS might be best choice.
