It depends on what the car is being compared to. You can't take those opinions as comparing the two cars against each other. I guarantee you every MT editor would choose the GS over the ES. The issue is the GS gets compared to the 5 Series, E Class, etc and at the time those vehicles were far more dyanamic and sophisticated (hence saki to a cabernet convention). The ES is in a different price segment and compared against cars that it just blew away.

The 2013 GS was a huge improvement. But, I bought a new ES in 2010 and I seriously considered a 2010 GS. The only reason I chose the ES was that I could more comfortably afford it at the time. Had I had a bigger budget, I would have gotten the GS. Same in 2003, I got the ES because thats what I could comfortably afford. GS is just a better car in every way (which it should be, its more expensive). In 2013 when I could afford the GS...thats what I got.

Once we got into the 2013 redesigns of both the ES and GS, there became non cost related reasons to choose the ES, and that was mostly space...the ES became a lot bigger than the GS. But those 07, 08 generations they were very similar in size.

sure you can lol. You can definitely take the opinions comparing the two cars against each other. It just doesn’t fit your narrative, that’s why you don’t want to compare them. The 2013 GS, was a better car then the 2013 ES. And that’s mostly backed up by most reviews. The 08 GS just wasn’t very good. The GS460 was a special offering

From a sedan perspective. I have owned a 1997 ES300. 2010 GS460. 2013 GS450h and now a 2016 ES300h. All of them fully spec’ed.

I would have to say the 2016 ES exceeded my expectations.

The 08 GS wasn't as great a car as the 13 GS, but it was still a better car than the 08 ES. Just the interior alone sold it over the ES, coupled with the proper RWD layout and excellent ride and quietness, only reason to get the ES was price...and thats the only reason I got it after driving them back to back at least a dozen times. I also had a very good friend who had a 2010 GS and I was in the cars back to back many times. I've compared them repeatedly, I was saying MT wasn't comparing them.

I've only owned or seriously considered and extensively test drove all the cars being discussed and you probably haven't even driven any of them, but lets listen to you some more lol.

SW17LS, please exit this thread. That sort of dismissive and condescending comment isn't needed here.

The ES outsells the GS by a factor of 5 to 1, so more of them will be available regardless of mileage.

The 2010 ES wasn’t even sold domestically in Japan or in our market (Australia / NZ) . It offered very little over the Avalon or top speced Camry of those years.

Obviously I'm talking about the American market.
