I agree that no young person is going to look at a modern Lexus and go OMG, I have to have it. However, I would extend the sentiment to people of all ages. Nobody likes a "big-mouth" with the exception of Bass fishermen!

Why wouldn’t they?

Some of the newer Lexus front ends are alright, not all of them. New LX600 front looks good, LS as well. ES doesn’t look so hot. RX is hit and miss . Older pre spindle Lexus was some of the most boring cars ever made from a styling point of view. Never liked pre 2000 Lexus. Aside from the LX450 and 470.

GM would fail no matter which demographic it would target.

Disagree. GM's image-marketing is actually pretty good. It's their actual production-decisions (like getting out of the sedan market) that often make no sense. Ford, unfortunately, shares many of the same characteristics.

I'm surprised you think this considering how much you're against luxury brands emphasizing sportiness, when that's literally how Cadillac had been trying to market itself since the 2000s (albeit to mixed levels of success).

You have to take it in the context I was using the term. Cadillac, with some success, has indeed pushed sport-oriented marketing, but, in doing so, drove away their core market...which wanted rolling living-rooms, not BMW-fighters. They got some new customers, but, in the meantime, drove away many of those who had kept them in business for decades.

I agree, but "boring" vs "spindle" aren't the only two options. Lexus should borrow from the German design aesthetic to come up with a new styling direction that isn't so polarizing (assuming some like the spindle). Good styling seems like an easier task then good engineering, but one wouldn't know it based on the plethora of mediocre styling out there.

lol "German design aesthetic" isn't exactly not polarizing nowadays either.

"Nothing special" trumps outlandish. I prefer clean and understated styling.

The grills on all cars are huge. If people didn't like it, they wouldn't design them that way.
