This Is How Lexus Is Going After Younger Consumers
By Brett Foote

Lexus knows that it must lower the average age of its owners in order to survive.

Thus, he set out to change the brand's advertising approach by striking deals with micro-influencers including gamers, audiophiles, and sneakerheads.
Lexus has totally lost it.

With all due respect, IMO, the idea that Lexus can only "survive" by going after young people is nonsense. First, no one (even young people) is getting any younger LOL ...time marches on for all of us. Second, today's young people are tomorrow's older adults....they will have families and need more traditional vehicles. Third, tomorrow's youth is probably going to be even less interested in vehicles than today's are...they are going to be dealing with a world of plug-in vehicle-appliances and self-drivers, and talking about how their mothers and fathers used to get into vehicles and actually make them go with a pedal and steer with a wheel.

Yup...only concentrate on your core market. Worked great for Cadillac and Buick

Two things. First, my point is that the so-called core market is never stable.....it changes with time. Today's teens become tomorrow's adults, then parents, then grandparents. Second, in China, which is arguably the world's largest auto market today, Buick is the most-sought-after brand....it's considered a status-symbol.

"If I am being honest, I feel like our competitors are doing a better job of connecting with these consumers than we were," Shahani admitted.
That might have something to do with the cars you are building Lexus.

We're talking about historical context on how Buick and Caddy screwed up by not pursuing younger buyers leading to their diminished market presence. Lexus is being smart in chasing a younger audience so they can be loyal when they get older. Mercedes and BMW are extremely successful now because they are catering to a younger audience so that they build loyalty as the customer gets older.

The problem with the 500 was that it deviated too much from what actually sold the 400, 430, and 460. Lexus did exactly what it shouldn't have done with that car......changed the successful formula.

And especially the infotainment systems in them. Want to attract young people? Design a car for them that is as interesting as their phone when it comes to technology.

Yeah, because they were trying to rope in younger buyers.

And it clearly didn't work. Motto.....leave successful strategies alone.
