Default Used car for my mother.

While I keep telling my father that Lexus is reliable, he talked my mother into a BMW X3. Yeah expected issues have happened so now we are talking about a replacement.
Mothers friend also had a X3 and bought a Lexus NX and said it feels like an old person car.
Luxury is a must and MB E350 seems to be what my father is considering. He asked what is the difference from one year to next. I am not at all familiar with MB.

If you think Lexus is boring, the E350 is by far the most boring car I ever drove, it has zero thrills and zero character.

Look at the GV70 from Genesis. Motortrend SUV of the year.

German cars will be costly to maintain and probably troublesome over the longterm, especially after the warranty is up. They are mostly all the same.
Best sticking with Toyota/Lexus for a solid experience.

Oh. I have made this clear many times.
Guess some will venture to play. Extended warranty will be used.

The E Class Mercedes are quite reliable. I know several people who have them in varying ages, and reading the forums I wouldn't be worried about one.

So....if you know, just what is the friend's definition of an "Old Person's" car? I hear that phrase a lot, and get tired of that kind of stereotype. Old people, in fact, drive all kinds of different vehicles, as do not-so-old people.

What issues are you having with X3?

I recommend to lease a new German car - it will cost you similar $$$ to buying one used with no headaches.

‘Just get a Lexus ES. All your dependability concerns will be resolved.

Except they would lose all of the platform sophistication they clearly value given their vehicle choices.

True but you also have to settle for a 4 cyl turbo vs. a silky smooth v6

Depends on what year E350 we're talking about. The V6 alone wouldn't be enough to get me into a FWD ES vs an E Class.

I say take a look at Mazda's top trims in the CX-5 and larger SUV's, Japanese reliability with luxury enough for most, and still reasonably priced. I had a 2014 CX-5 and loved it for what it was, but I needed a truck again so I traded it after a year and a half. I still see it around town and I am sure it has a bazillion miles by now.

Also, the Lexus RX and Jeep Grand Cherokee L would be high on my list of midsized SUV's. I would sell an NX if you gave it to me. That's how much I cannot stand it. I would rather have a Rav4.
