Has Genesis just completely suspended media launches? Since the GV70 none of their vehicles have had a proper launch where all journalists would have to wait for an embargo and post reviews on the same day.

He said the LS500 was two generations behind.

That 2nd refresh can't come soon enough.

if a 'proper launch' means the embargo, etc., i'm not in favor of 'proper launches'.

they got the car to a review duo (savagegeese) that has a lot of credibility and isn't a pushover. to get such high praise from them is worth a lot of buzz over fluff reviews and certainly the stupid pre-embargo type reviews which either can't drive it, or can talk about it but only certain things, etc.

He said the LS500 was two generations behind.
yeah that's rough on lexus. he also said a couple of times the transmission isn't as smooth as an s-class which was surprising.

other than that though, the review was basically hugely positive. since i had a last gen g90, it made me excited about this one. not that i need a huge sedan again, but i'd certainly love the ride quality and quiet i'm sure.

Watching the video now. A very impressive sedan….but, when they talk about “value and what you get for $100,000) to me it is not there. Truly needs a V8.,,when Genesis can charge a German price tag..and make someone switch from a German for the same money…then they have made it.

a v8 option would be nice but an s580 STARTs at $117 and adding a few options to get similar specs to the loaded g90 gets you to 130-140 (vs 100 for g90).

mercedes will keep selling v8's as long as demand is there and they're not regulated out of existence.

i consider 409hp in a silent and smooth g90 'adequate' as rolls royce would say.

Thats just it, its not the same money, optioned like that is $40,000 cheaper, and thats comparing it to a 6 cyl S500. You can't buy ANY S Class for $100,000. S500 starts at $112,000.

Nothing wrong with them presenting a value option. Driving an S Class myself, I love it but its SO much more money...I don't know that I would get another one.

A turbo V8 for below $100K is a total fantasy on this class of vehicle lol

Also, the electrically supercharged G90 is a tier above the current A8, LS500, and upcoming 740i (which doesn't even offer AWD). Only the S500 and Range Rover offer electrically supercharged/turbocharged 6-cylinders, and they are in totally different leagues price-wise. The LS500 would need the more powerful hybrid TTV6 from the Tundra to be on the same level as the G90.

And with the A8, you can only get the V8 now in the S8, the 7 Series the V8 is only available in M Sport trim. LS has no V8, so the S Class is the only car where you can get a V8 in the luxury trim

I'm trying to talk a family member into a 2023 G90. He's a long time LS owner but doesn't like the LS500. He has it narrowed down to the S580 (but he wants the hybrid model that goes 60 miles on purely electric; supposedly coming to the US in 23) and the G90 even though he hasn't driven a G90. I watched the SavageGeese vid and sent it to him. I'm extremely impressed by the G90. If I was in the market for a luxo barge, it would be at the top of my list but I'd have to drive it to make sure it delivers the type of experience I'm reading/hearing about.

If he loved the old LSs, I bet he would really like the G90. He will love the S580 too its just a lot more money.

That's good feedback; and it's what I've been telling him. I said I don't think any of the Euro luxury sedans are going to give you the feel you liked about the LS, but the G90 will do it or get the closest. Price is not an issue, but the value of any car is an issue. If an S580 blows him away compared to a G90 he'll get the S class. If it's close, he'll go Genesis.

Exactly, the V8 has become associated with "sporty" vehicles and only the S-Class can get away with offering such an engine on a luxury trim. The days of vehicles like the LS460 are long gone.

EV's have taken the place of V8's when it comes to luxury.

If he has never had an S Class, he should get the S580 if he can afford it. Thats a Mercedes V8 car that will never come again, this is it, next gen will be EV. Even if I don't get another S Class, I am really happy that I will have had one.

And I'm all down for that, we just need some EVs with good looks, luxury car cred and interiors and long range.

And I would gladly pay more for the V8 so I can day one tune it. Same applies when I look for used cars, I never so much as glance at the lesser engines since support and options are so much more limited. No one cares to develop anything for them and owners are never as enthusiastic about them.

Think ISF vs IS350/250 and who owns them and how the cars get treated and the overall support. It's no contest
